Oh no! A proper trooper, he was; I'll always remember being at Redemption '01 on the Friday morning when he came into Ops and said "Right, what can I do?" and started carrying cardboard boxes.

I hadn't heard that story, god bless him. He was the life and soul of that con.

Oh, this breaks my heart! He was the regular MC each year at MidSouthCon, and I always looked forward to seeing him. He was a lovely man and a real gentleman. (He even sang "Once in Love with Amy" to me one time before he made off with a bite of my pecan pie.) Fans everywhere have lost a true friend and a true original.

I remember him from Redemption '01 being the life and soul of the con. And as Mr Bronson in Grange Hill he was a national institution.

Oh, how sad! Thanks for telling us.

It is sad, I don't think of 65 as old.

Absolutely not, I thought that myself when I saw it.

And me. He was great fun at Redemption - I remember having dinner with him on the Thursday night, when a small group of the early arrivals decided that we were going to have at least one proper sit-down dinner in the restaurant while we had the chance. [livejournal.com profile] kerravonsen and I had a long argument with him on whether or not it is possible to taste the ethanol in alcoholic drinks, after Michael ordered a bottle of wine to share with people and then discovered that everyone else at the table either already had beer, or didn't drink at all...

Yeah, I remember that. At some other point he tried to persuade me that I really wanted to run a convention, just so that he could be a guest and get invited to Australia...

Oh, that's so sad. I didn't even know he was ill. He was down on Cult TVs list of guests too, so I suppose he was trying to keep going as long as possible... :(

That's sad. I've always heard he was a lovely man.

Definitely the life and soul of Redemption 01.

Oh, how sad. I was only at Redemption '01 for one day, but I heard him speak and he was such fun.

I distinctly remember him stealing the show at the Wobblevision.

I always thought of him as Herr Grünwald - indeed he seemed to have been in everything. Far too early.

I also think of him as Section Leader Klegg - he is great in that part. 65 is no age.

That's sad news Alt.

I remember his appearence at Redemption '01. Although i didn't speak to him much, he really seemeed to enjoy mixing with the fen. On the Sunday he organised some attendees into a small army and marched them into Gareth's talk in the main hall's stage. Brillantly funny.

:-(
