Trouble is, my jaded, cynical mind just thinks "oh right, lots of CGI", and there's something about hundreds of serried rows of CGI Daleks/Vogons/robots that just doesn't excite me the way a lot of actors dressed up does.
Oh, someone who agrees with me! Be it every so clever and beautifully done, CGI simply never quite suspends my disbelief the way a real person or model (even in a bad costume) can...
And none of them were cardboard cutouts. Part of what was thrilling abot this episode, for me, was the knowledge that this is exactly the kind of thing that would have been in a 1960s Dalek story if they'd had an unlimited budget. Like those TV21 comic strips brought to life.
Oh yeah and Jack took his kit off.
I'm sure my appreciation of this was enhanced by watching it in the company of a roomful of drooling fangirls intelligent and incisive female cultural critics.
No, I haven't received any email from you. It's possible you may have been using one of my now-defunct addresses: iain@iaincoleman.net is now my main email address.
Hmm. Has potential. Though I think that the one in "Dalek" was more menacing—there's something about the concept of a psychologist with a gun that scares the crap out of me. [I blame Ilsa Bick for that. ;)]
I knew I could rely on you for reliably shallow burbling about TV, just like me (Whee! Flying Daleks--Whee! Naked Jack!--Whee! Isn't _Hustle_ bright and shiny!) Bless you, these are just the sorts of things I tend to come out with, or think of, and then think 'think of something intelligent to say, still coming up blank, damn'...
My favourite DW ep this time was the weird wartime ghost-child and the nano-things.
But 'Russell T Davies takes on Big Brother &c' _was_ entertaining...
Visited yr LJ because Evil Collab says you're on Fictionwise. Am impressed!
It's all about the squee in this journal! If anything intelligent is said, it's purely accidental, like the infinite number of monkeys on the typewriter.
My favourite has been the wartime ghost-child and the nano-things too, although I have loved pretty much all of it (perhaps not the farting monsters, but little kids have loved that).

Reliably shallow!
