Oh... I eagerly clicked to read the argument, especially about JC and SoP as two of my favourites, but I suppose we've got to work it out for ourselves?
Your WS, you see. He's a bit of a hack. The Troy Kennedy Martin of his generation, you might say, if you were a bit of a berk. But when he does something great - like JC, beautiful political drama that's superficially a thriller, but is really a character piece - then he's great.
On the other hand, he does a lot of "popular" bilge. Out of which the occasional shining jewel emerges. And Macbeth is that sort of rollicking good, chewing the scenery, crowd-pleasing play that *is* *a bit* better than it seems on the surface. But not a lot.
