The BBC news website excels itself with this election party pack. Party colour co-ordinated cocktails, suggested playlist, masks of the leaders (ergh!) but my favourite bit is the election bingo: "Each player has a bingo card; watch the BBC's election coverage and cross off your boxes as you hear the words spoken on the television." For example:

neck and neck
one poll matters
end of the day
middle england
spoil the party
bloody nose

Gosh it's like poetry.

Well, that's just crying out for one of those drinking games: take one sip every time Peter Snow says 'just a bit of fun'.

Heh! Brilliant. Can we organise this on-line? An LJ Election Night bash?!

Hey - now that's a good idea. We really ought to do some live blogging on election night.

Absolutely. Because we're all going to be sitting at home shouting at the telly, right? So I reckon we might as well do the shouting where there's a chance someone might actually argue back...

Some of us have counts to attend... Not to mention the all-night bash at the Chorlton Irish club!

[Doubtfully] Are you sure politics counts?

There's always phone posts and text message posting.

Which is a bit one-way, I'll allow, but you can still keep us up to date :)

Oh help...

Recognising that that's an emphatic, not a request, I'll still point you at the relevant bits of the FAQ :)

Hm. Have tried doing that, but couldn't find an explanation anywhere of what to do about underscores in user names. I guessed a hyphen, but no sign of my trial message coming through yet.

Plus the BBC's "as it happens" web coverage is usually really nifty.

Oh, I'm not arguing with anybody, but poking fun at the telly and the politicians would be fun. I'll have to sort out my cables and things....

I had a flatmate from London who couldn't go a single conversation without saying "at the end of the day". I've since decided it's a citizenship requirement for the UK (but only enforced in England).

Along with "mustn't grumble"?

I don't think I've ever said that. Not without huge amounts of irony, anyhow!

I think I may have heard it said. Wouldn't saying it ironically make it even more British?

It's just occurred to me that one advantage of being geographically challenged is that I *don't* have to stay up all night to see the all night results coverage. :-)

You have to see Peter Snow at some point!

Oh yes - but I can see him in what will be the wee small hours in the UK wihtout having to stay up, on account of being in a time zone 8 hours behind the UK. :-)

Might have to settle for hearing him, though - depends what sort of video feed the beeb lays on for international users of the website. The broadband webcast of News 24 is subsciption-only for those with IP addresses outside the licence fee paying area.

Ah, I misread your first sentence! (On the lines of "Thank God I'm out of the country and won't have to suffer watching the coverage"!) It wouldn't be an election without Peter's Swing!

Indeed not. One teensy-weensy hiccough though - I've never viewed Peter's Swing in quite the same way since discovering slash...

(Insane giggling ensued when I discovered the Swing Game on the beeb website earlier today:-)
