Dickens in America

BBC Four (telly for the discerning couch potato), is currently showing a documentary series called Dickens in America, in which Miriam Margolyes follows Dickens' journey through the US, as written about in American Notes. It has so far been thoroughly enjoyable. Last week Miriam was following Dickens through Boston, staying, as he did, at the Parker House Hotel, which has - in its long history - provided hospitality to such international jetsetters as Mr Altariel and myself. The programme has been interesting about Dickens (and his wife), interesting about the US, and interesting about the Special Relationship. Thumbs up so far.

And in thoroughly unrelated news, Mark Williams has just knocked in a 147.

I don't sub to The Atlantic Monthly, but I might have read articles from it in the past - I have Arts and Letters Daily as my browser home page.

I think that one is subscription only, though :-(
