Oh you of the unfair polls! Luckily I haven't seen all of Firefly yet, so feel unable to comment.

(Very relieved at not being forced to decide)

(NB Only using my BSG icon because I don't have a FF one)

Go on, I bet you can choose!

I couldn't resist swiping this FF-BSG icon combo from [livejournal.com profile] stultoloquentia.

To be honest, I would've preferred Firefly to stay around because of its greater scope for stories. BSG will eventually have to do drastic changes, which is always very risky.

Also, of course, Firefly was much slashier than BSG has been so far.

Yes, I'd tend to agree - I suppose BSG is a single quest story, really, although there's plenty that's interesting surrounding that quest.

Oh, come on! Starbuck and Apollo are so slashy, and yes, I mean Katee Sackhoff and Jamie Bamber.

I'd rather have Firefly back, though. ::bawl:: TV without Joss!humour is a sad, sad, dusty landscape.

Um, unless Apollo is a very good crossdresser, that's het, not slash.

Heehee! If you like your definitions rigid, yes. We're talking sex vs. gender, and how much one enjoys subverting the definitions of both. People called Buffy/Spike slashy back in the day. John/Aeryn? Queer, bay-beh. Likewise, on matters of gender, power and radical feminist binaries, Battlestar Galactica is shaping up subversive as hell.

Aw, who cares, just bring on the snoggage. ;)

Well, I like to be able to use different words for different things and it gets tiresome to have to start using new words for old concepts every couple of years.

But anyway. If "slash" now only means "sex", which word do you propose we use for what "slash" used to mean?

Wonderfalls.

I should have given a 'neither' option, I think.

Nah, seriously, Firefly even more than Wonderfalls which actually came to a very satisfactory "assume we won't be renewed" conclusion a la Buffy season one. I've never seen the new Battlestar Galactica but I hated the old one with a fiery frothing passion.

The new BSG is very different from the original (to the extent of being hated by fans of the original with a fiery frothing passion).

I watch both, but it's So Not A Contest. :)

I discovered in class last night (during which we were watching and discussing the episode "Bushwhacked," in between looking at political rhetoric and exploring The Martian Chronicles) that I have actually worn out my first set of FF DVDs. :::sigh:::

Totally unrelated question: Is there a reason The Equalizer isn't available on DVD yet?

Second totally unrelated question: I am trying to track down a copy of one specific episode of The New Professionals. I'm desperate for it. You don't happen to have any advice for me, do you? I would be so grateful for any suggestions! :) Thanks!

Wow! (I have yet to buy a set, I know I will watch them constantly when I do.)

The Equalizer DVDs... no idea; some bias against releasing shows starring Edward Woodward? << insert my Callan grouch here! >>

I can't help you on The New Professionals either, I'm afraid (I never watched it). The forums at The Mausoleum Club are my usual source for finding out what archive material is up for release.

Thanks! I share your Callan frustration, by the way. Edward Woodward (who is the common denominator between The Equalizer and The New Professionals, just to explain my train of thought earlier) don't get no respect, man. ::sniff, sniff::

I did not know that Edward Woodward was the connection! That show slipped completely under my radar. Was it any good?

The episodes I've seen weren't bad. Not quite as edgy as the original Pros, but hey, this was Edward Woodward, you know? So you cut it a little slack. I've never seen the New Pros episode with John Castle guest starring ("Hostage), though, which I've read is just remarkable. And since JC is one of my absolute favorite actors, I'm trying to round out my collection and get a peek of it. Anyway, EW made for a different kind of director of CI5 than Gordon Jackson had as George Cowley in the original Pros -- different but interesting.

I read a little about John Castle on your website; we've just been watching the Miss Marples again, he's particularly good in that (oh, I see he's in 'Reilly, Ace of Spies' - that's something else I must get round to watching).

I'll keep an eye out for the New Pros in case it turns up on one of the cable channels (hm, assuming you can cope with PAL video?).

Because Firefly is the best SF show ever made, and BSG bored the arse off me except for the brief moments when it was actively annoying.

I thought that about Space: 1999 - even the interesting bits are dull.

That's it! You put your finger on it. As I told my hubby, "I wish I could care." His response: "Do you know when something is supposed to happen on this show?" My response: "I think something is happening right now." His response: "Oh."

I'm sure I loved it when I was a kid... Maybe it was the trailers I was enjoying.
