The Great LiveJournal
Outage of 2005

During the outage I discovered something called physical interaction. It was most pleasurable.

What did you do?

Brought to you by geek-foo

I also created an emergency journal at Greatest Journal, although I won't be updating it regularly. This time I managed to get 'altariel', without the irritating little '1' at the end.

[g] Well, I just did what I normally do!

most people found that they got more work done, though....

I also managed to fit in even more episodes of Law and Order!!

I'm there, too - had that account for a while.

As you're the second person on my flist this morning who says they've got themselves a GJ, I wandered over there and got one too. Same name and all.

The default colour scheme is scary.

Friended.

That default is kind of scary. I frittered away some time this morning tweaking with layout.

The LJ outage was actually a great thing -- I suddenly discovered the pile of books lying in wait for me on my desk and was thus able to spend a lot of time thinking about Satan (i.e. reading up on Paradise Lost). If the whole Internet had been down, I might already be writing the essay...

Yes, I'm always massively productive when the Internet goes down. When I was writing the book, I got Mr Altariel to unplug the internet entirely.

This is all hellishly reminiscent of the Great Tea Trolley Disaster of 1987.....

It was off? I honestly never noticed.
Too busy playing with my new puter.
New toys are cool but they create a time dilation tunnel that makes you lose entire weekends!

I managed to avoid withdrawal symptoms by spending Saturday helping with a house move. How I would have spent the time otherwise, I just don't know!

Unlike most of the rest of the universe, I don't have much computer time on weekends (kid-patrol & running errands are my main pastimes) - so I hardly noticed the outage.

Much more sensible way of spending a weekend than fiddling with blogs.

Oh, heavens... now I've gone and created a Greatest Journal.

It sounds kind of ostentatious... it's not just ANY journal, it's the GREATEST journal! (;

It may not be LIVE but it's GREAT!

I was reminded of a quote from someone, "As science and engineering work to make systems which are more and more fool proof, evolution answers this effort with bigger and bigger fools."

It didn't bother me much, as I have yet to immerse myself in LJ the way I have in other fora. Still, it was an annoyance, as I had no way of checking the doings of my friends. Tolkien Fan Fiction was busy over the weekend, but not overly so. Henneth Annûn was busy as well, but it often has busy days, so it is hard to say if it was the LJ outage.

I managed to survive, and got a few hours work in on Tolkien Fan Art, which is close to a grand opening.

Most of the day I was out helping someone move house, but it really brought home how many people I might suddenly lose contact with if I didn't have some other means of communicating with them.

It is amazing how much the Internet has changed us. I have friends all over the world I would never have met without it. This has made my life far richer than it otherwise would have been. I did not miss LJ because I am new to it, and have other communities I am more active in, but were my internet connection to be severed for any length of time, it would be hard to take. I have become quite attached to my circle of cyber-friends.

It was horrible when I lost my net connection last year (last Christmas, I think it was). Having said that, I did have to get Mr A. to pull the plug so I could get the book finished.

Crumbs! They're breeding! Isn't one palantir enough?

I spent most of the outage asleep as I've been a bit under-the-weather.

When I can collect the set?

Sorry you've not been feeling well :-(

I fear some of them are for ever lost.

I'm feeling better, thanks :-)

I spent it trying to write. Emphasis on the "trying" part. Oh, and running the Brothers Mir over the countryside in an effort to drive the Shadow away yet again (The Battle for Middle-earth game). And cleaning house. A little. Just enough so that I could write without feeling guilty. And find my way to the food and the bed and the bathroom...

I've not had much success writing either, gah. I am going to try and sneak an hour or so this afternoon.

I helped with a house move. Mr A. was deputized into house-cleaning (i.e. to make sure that there was at least one clean surface in the kitchen on which food could be prepared).
