Watched back Not Only... But Always the other night; I think it was meant to be/was billed as a play about Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, but inevitably Cook was more interesting. (The biography on which the play was based, Peter Cook by Harry Thompson, is well worth a read.) Rhys Ifans as Peter Cook was just perfect. The play also brought home something that I think I'd always vaguely known but never before seen expressed so clearly: that Jonathan Miller is a crashing bore.

Nebulous is a geekish and amiable Radio 4 comedy starring Mark Gatiss as Professor Nebulous, who runs an eco-trouble shooting organisation called K.E.N.T. (it stands for something new every week). It might help to have a passing knowledge of Doom-watch and late-Pertwee early-Baker Dr Who, but I don't think that's essential... The first week's episode had a Meglos-style villain, part-human, part-cactus: "It's humanoid and cactilinear." Anyway, it's amusing me. (I think you can listen to last week's episode via that link.)

Meanwhile, the Blackadder vs. Hitch-hiker's Deathmatch has been very closely tied, up until early this morning, when Blackadder inched ahead 21 votes to Hitch-hiker's 18. I'd love there to be 42 votes cast. Come on, you lot, I only need 3 more.

Edited to add: Blackadder wins, 24 votes to 19. [livejournal.com profile] applegnat, all that vote-stacking paid off! *lol*

It's such a good word: "cactilinear". Very satisfying to say.

Vote duly cast.

Bless you, my child.

Yes, I thought it was rather a good word, too. And not only that, but it's real: if you heard it on Radio 4, it must be true.

And if ever they use it on the Today programme, I'll know it's not only true but right.

BTW, you just sealed the victory for Blackadder.
