1. My journal is called "It's a full life, if a trifle banal" because Garak says it about himself, and it's true. Less so for Garak than for me, I would say, on balance.

2. My subtitle is Altariel's journal because it is, and because I was running out of ideas.

3. My friends page is called "They never told me that in the Obsidian Order" because, again, Garak says it; this time to Bashir when they're tied up together in the thoroughly unslashy Our Man Bashir: "Kiss the girl, get the key. They never told me that in the Obsidian Order." All about spies, you see, Our Man Bashir. ("Enhance my evening" is also something that Garak says to Bashir.)

4. My username is altariel1 because Altariel is the pseud I picked for my Tolkien writing, but when I came to pick an LJ username, 'altariel' had already gone. That '1' really irritates me.

5. My default userpic is the Second Doctor because - well, look at him. "Genius" is something he calls himself, btw. Can't remember what the story is, it's got Ice Warriors in it. Possibly The Ice Warriors?

6. My LJ "name" is Altariel because, again, it's the Tolkien-writing pseud. Which I picked because I was embarrassed to be writing F/E romances rather than stuff about spaceships and interrogations and explosions. And because - whatever the fiction might suggest - Galadriel has been my favourite character in LotR for years. And because I have delusions of grandeur.

It's weird the extent to which these pseudonyms take hold of one.

Particularly as my real name is plastered all over the net anyway.

I tend to think of the '1' in altariel1 as meaning 'The One'.

Besides, your messianic qualities should ensure that everyone is living to serve the 1.

I just read on Trixie's journal that Tim Choate died in September :-(

I think of it as a key combination. Alt+Ariel+1. I don't know what it does though as I can't find the Ariel key.

I fear it might be the key combination that sentimentalizes everything I write.

Oh dear

Someone very sad might tell you that it was "Seeds of Death". But that would mark them out as sad. So they won't.

No, I can't imagine anyone wanting to prove that they were that sad.

Ooh! I just checked the usurper's journal, and it has been deleted! Keep an eye on it - she might have abandoned it entirely.

It's straightforward to change a journal's name (costs some dollars), but I don't know whether or not they re-issue names that have been already used.

Poo, looks like they don't :( . I could have sworn I've seen cases where they did.

It's a shame about 'altariel'. At least '1' makes a positive statement of uniqueness.

Neat-o. Like the names even more now that I know where they're from and the story behind them. :)

That '1' really irritates me.

I think it's cute! It looks really sweet. I liked it. Thought it was intentional up till now... :D

Yes, that's the secret of the extra '1'! I feel better about it now that people have said they like it!

Your answers to questions no. 1 and no. 3 were certainly most enlightening for a non-Trekkie like me, who could only vaguely remember that Garak and Bashir were two characters from DS-9...

But the answer to no. 6 really came as a surprise to me: Whatever the fiction might suggest - Galadriel has been my favourite character in LotR for years. Well, your fanfic had actually succeeded very well in implying completely different preferences! But it would be very interesting to see a Galadriel story from your pen (or rather keyboard). I know that you have already written Ring of Water, and I liked it -- it had only one fault: it was too short. ;)

And because I have delusions of grandeur. Or a healthy dose of self-esteem. :)

In my defence, I must point out that it covered four ages! ;-D There is a very short Galadriel piece that I wrote for a round robin at HA; I think it's up somewhere at HASA. It really is true that Galadriel has been my favourite character for years. And Eowyn. Faramir popped out of nowhere.

Which round robin was it`? Up to now, I've been shamefully neglecting the HASA writers groups collaborations (according to the proverb, too many cooks spoil the broth etc. *g*), but perhaps I should finally give them a try!

It was a round robin based on the premise that the Three Rings hadn't lost their power. There only seem to be five chapters up at HASA; I thought there more written (that link will work if you're logged in).

The collaborations have been really good, particularly drabbling LotR and so on.

I liked the Three Rings collaboration: It was quite a promising plotbunny, and even though the distinct styles of the different authors were still recognizable in the chapters, this didn't really bother me (as I had expected). What a pity that the story seems to be unfinished! Oh, it had an interesting portrait of the wearer of Nenya, too. :) Have I understood the story correctly, and did Galadriel yield to the temptations of power in your depiction of her?

It is a shame that the story didn't carry on; it proved difficult to find people to take part.

She certainly did. I don't know how far she would have gone, however.
