I am trying to track down UK transmission dates for a couple of shows, neither of which I watched from the beginning or watched to the end. I'm poking around the net, but because I am lazy because I know what wonderful, brilliant, sparkly people you all are, perhaps there is someone who knows this kind of thing off the top of his/her head.

I need to know the start and end dates of transmission for:

Lexx
Andromeda

(Only the years, and in the UK.)

I found a website which gives terrestrial TV transmission dates, but I'm sure these first aired on Sky or Sci-Fi or whatever. Or did Lexx turn up on Channel 5 first?

Edited to say: OK, this is what net-searching has suggested so far - if anyone reading these dates thinks they're wildly wrong, please shout:

Lexx (1999-2002)
Andromeda (2000-date)

Lexx was definitely on during the year I started seeing Harriet, and that was 1998.

1998 makes a lot more sense: I know the original Canadian transmission was 1997, and it actually gives time for all four seasons to show. Thanks for this.

I generally go to the Lysator archives when trying to work this sort of thing out.

Andromeda started showing in October 2000, and I think the US and UK (Sky One) airdates were pretty close together. It first seems to be mentioned on Lysator by an American on October 16, which seems to be two weeks after its first US transmission. It first seems to be mentioned by a Scot on October 31, but that refers to the third episode, counting the opening two-parter as two, and I think we got them both together, didn't we? Curiously, three days before that someone replied to a message you had posted about it which isn't in the archive - but FC appears in the headline, so I imagine you posted to FC and for some reason the reply went to both lists (and of course there is no official FC archive). My recollection is that it started out in the Monday spot, so if the third episode was shown on October 30, then it started either on October 16 (if the two-parter was shown in two halves) or October 23. My money's on October 23, 2000. To date, I think the UK's last Andromeda was season three, which ended in September 2003, probably (from private email correspondence) about the 15th. I presume season four will turn up here eventually, and gather the US is on to season five.

Lexx - [livejournal.com profile] steverogerson asked when the videos were coming out in July 1998, which probably implies it had been seen in the UK by then. I know the first episode I saw was Luvliner, ie the second season, but can't precisely date it. I mentioned the final episode as a recent event on May 12, 2002.

Oh, that's a very good idea, I must remember that one.

Right, so it looks like my dates for Andromeda are OK, but that I need to bring Lexx back by a year. That does make more sense: 1999 seemed a bit late to allow all four series to run, plus the original Canadian transmission was 1997. I know it took a while to get sold abroad, but two years is perhaps a bit excessive. I think I was at a site that was listing DVD/video release dates but not clarifying that they weren't transmission dates.

Thank you for doing all this work, it's much appreciated. I was starting to tear my hair out.

I wonder whether the peculiar format of the first Lexx season, ie it isn't really a season at all but four sort-of-film-length-episodes, affected the initial UK broadcast? But I wasn't aware of it at that point, and can't quite remember which channel showed it first anyway. Not Sky, I think.

Is it the kind of thing that would into Sci-Fi's schedule pretty well?
