Poking around Anke Eissmann's site today, I found two new paintings of Faramir, one in the Houses of Healing called Athelas and one with Boromir entitled Escape From Osgiliath (I can't link to them directly, but they are all linked from that main page above).

She has also painted one of my favourite major characters, Tom Bombadil, and one of my favourite minor characters, the fox:
"A few creatures came and looked at them when the fire had died away. A fox passing through the wood on business of his own stopped several minutes and sniffed. 'Hobbits!' he thought. 'Well, what next? I have heard of strange doings in this land, but I have seldom heard of a hobbit sleeping out of doors under a tree. Three of them! There's something mighty queer behind this.' He was quite right, but he never found out any more about it."

Here is an old story of mine about them both, and another character, Moss and Stone.

A cute and charming ficlet...

... which manages to capture the tone of the more light-hearted "fairy-tale" chapters of The Fellowship of the Ring in a very appropriate manner. It even makes me long for Tolkien's version of that meeting -- although I have never cared for Tom Bombadil in particular. (Sorry, but I consider his singing and his fashion sense rather off-putting. ;-))I have always been quite fond of the fox, though. Why don't publish your fic together with Anke's pictures as illustrations on another website? If I remember it correctly, the German tranalation of your trilogy "Unreal City" was put online in a similar manner.

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I love the Bombadil sections: they're so bizarre and yet so completely the spirit of the book.

That's a good idea about producing a English version of the trilogy with Anke's illustrations; I think I'll approach her and ask permission. [livejournal.com profile] belegcuthalion did such a wonderful job with the translation, and a PDF file might be the way to with an English version of the text as well.

Oh, please do so! I like the illustrated version on belegcuthalion's site, but it would be even nicer to see an illustrated original.
