We went to see Daredevil last night, on Jonathan Ross's recommendation. It was rather silly but, I thought, watchable - however, I was conscious of an increasingly hostile and indeed writhing presence at my side. After a particularly daft sex scene which culminated in the camera panning up to a blazing log fire, the cries of pain emanating from my SO forced me to lean over and ask if he would like to go and do something else. He leapt on the idea like a drowning man.

So we went to Borders and bought some DVDs. Getting home, we found out that most of them had been written by Troy Kennedy Martin: we'd bought some Reilly: Ace of Spies and The Italian Job. Amazingly, none of the episodes on The Sweeney: Diamond Geezers turned out to be by TKM. (The Sweeney: Diamond Geezers is a companion volume to The Sweeney: Car Chases and The Sweeney: Bank Jobs.)

We put on The Italian Job and it was, of course, a blast (and definitely a prime example of [livejournal.com profile] msmanna's Law of the Unexplained Plot). It cost us less than the price of both cinema tickets for Daredevil. When? When will we learn?

Why would your SO leap on a drowning man? (sorry)

I'd decided that it would probably in the "silly but watchable" category, even after reading about the log fire. But maybe now I'll wait for it to reach the small screen. He never was my favourite, anyway.

Give me a break, it's not 11am yet!

Ooops - thanks for the reminder. I'm supposed to be going to a meeting! Still haven't finished my first coffee of the morning. Waking up is hard to do.

In line with the Abba thread, you should be singing:

"Waking up is never easy, I know, but I have... to... go..."

Enjoy the meeting...

Thanks. Needless to say, I didn't. And this afternoon's meeting hasn't left me with enough time to nip into town to satisfy my Abba craving. :-(

Wretched meetings. Did you read the introversion article I posted in my LJ?

Borders doesn't close till late, thank Christ.

I did, and then, in a particularly cunning move, I closed my browser last night before posting my reply! I sometimes get an Alt-F4 frenzy on me when about to go home. I've lost all kinds of stuff like that. Will try again real soon now!

It's his fault that they now close at 10.00 is it? Thought so. Good idea, but having been in meetings most of the day, I'm in guilt mode about having done almost zero real work. I'm promising myself a trip into town tomorrow, when I can pick up some of the new DVDs as well. (Btw, is it next week that we get Angel Season 3??!)

We were surprised by the 10am closing time at Borders when we sought sanctuary after Daredevil the other night. When did that all start?

I don't think it's been open till 11 for quite a while. A couple of days after the change, I happened to walk in at about 10.15, not realising that it had changed. Odd, I thought, they must be saving money on the lights. And there's a gaggle of staff at the counter. And they're all looking at me very strangely....

No, they didn't :-( Which was a pity, because I'd actually planned my visit in advance: it was the only way of getting someone's birthday present in time. To be fair, they had probably already cashed up etc, but that didn't stop me being peeved at the time!
