The heat and humidity made my laptop crash just before lunch, taking with it my morning's work on the B7 essay. Mr Altariel is fairly confident that we can retrieve the data but... gah! The plus side was that I was only tinkering at the edges of some of the more robust sections, rather than putting down my sweet and tender new ideas, so it's stuff I can rewrite fairly easily. Still - gah!

Man, that stinks. Electronic sympathy.

Thanks for sympathy. What a bloody pain in the neck! I was preening myself at being so productive and positive and then... bleurgh.

Gha, and indeed gah! Fingers are crossed that you can get it back, either electronically or manually :)

I'm certain I can get it back manually (although - gah!), and Mr A. is hopeful about electronically, which would be much more preferable!

Oh bad luck! Hope the data is retrievable. This humidity is appalling!

Mr A. is pretty confident about getting it back. It's so hot! The laptop crashed just five minutes after it started raining, which I think only made the humidity even worse.

Bad computer, no charge for you. I hope your Mr. Altariel wins the day for you! And they said technology would improve lives... ;p

If anyone can fix it, Mr Altariel can. Myself, I'm thinking more about that hermitage in the mountains...

Thanks, gb. Gah! It crashed within about five minutes of the rain starting!

As if the rain weren't bad enough anyway. :-(

I was hoping it would make it a bit cooler, but that doesn't seem to have worked.

As peer review goes, that's pretty damned harsh. Hope the recovery/reconstruction effort succeeds.

Kind of suits what I'm writing about, though. Long dark lunchtime of the soul.

Umm. Hi.

Wasnt going to do this, initially, because no one likes random people popping up, but I decided to.

Your story Black Captain is simply brilliant. I would leave another review on ff.nt if I could. Just wanted to say that. :)

Hi Sphinx, feel free to drop by any time :-)

I'm delighted you liked Black Captain, thank you! I have another chess story underway, just writing for a little bit of inspiration - and, of course, some free time...

Bad laptop, no doughnut.

Hope you can get it all back.

I think it overheated, poor thing. I can sort of sympathize. It's done something similar before, and then worked fine once it had cooled down. Hopefully it'll be the same this time round.

I'm glad you weren't working on anything TOO critical. Still, your laptop's behavior is annoying at best.

If it had been the stuff I was writing this afternoon, I'd be absolutely gutted (hm, must go off straight away and do a back-up). If all else fails, I can reconstruct the morning's work quite easily - although there are some decent sentences there.

Ouch! How horribly frustrating that must be. At least you had some work to lose, which some of us ain't been able to boast yet...:)

I've recently been re-reading Dune. The characters in that universe had the right idea about computers - starting a violent crusade and smashing them all into pieces.

True, true, good point! And, as I say, it was mostly tinkering with stuff rather than putting down new ideas. Still, I was quite pleased with the tinkering!

I have a deep sympathy with those technoclasts.
