Alawa
Keepers of the Hearth: Best Original Characterization, Winner
One Day: Best Poetry (comic or light), Winner

Well done to the Awards Committee for their organization and hard work. As ever, it was great fun participating, particularly to get the chance to read stories that I would not otherwise have seen.

Why, thank you for asking!:

Thank you to everyone who voted for At Sea: I'm dead chuffed!

Congrats one and all -- extremely well deserved!

Well done to the Awards Committee for their organization and hard work.

Organisation might be overstating it a touch, but thanks for imputing it! I'm glad that you enjoyed participating -- I've certainly read loads of great stuff that I wouldn't otherwise have encountered.

No 'only' about judging, it's an essential part of the Awards!

Thanks for the congrats!

Yes, well done to all of them, and well done to you. I love both 'At Sea' and 'Spirits of the House'. I'm glad that other people do, too.

Hurrah for the Awards and the Committee!

You rock! You rock for your wins, and you rock for taking the time to list all your pals like that. Thanks. :-)

You know I love all your writing, but At Sea, in particular, fills me with great glee, so I'm, well, *gleeful* to see that it got recognized.

Doing this list enables me to procrastinate away the morning, and makes me look good by association ;-D

I was so chuffed about At Sea: it hadn't made the final list in the judged category, so it was such a pleasant surprise to see it there this morning.

Huge congratulations to all involved. I know from the stories I've read that the standard is incredibly high. Particular congrats to you and Alawa with three great stories listed. And in the true spirit of award ceremonies I'd also like to thank the committee for providing me with some great summer reading (i.e. all the stories I haven't read) *g*.

Thanks, KathyH! There's certainly plenty of good reading in the list...

It's a good set of stories, and there are loads I haven't read yet which have come with good recommendations. There's one that's a Lovecraft pastiche I'm looking forward to reading.

The Strange Case of the House at Hollinport was one of my personal 'wow moments' this year -- a fabulous story, by an author of whom I'd never previously heard. I was so chuffed when it did well, because I wasn't really expecting it to be most people's cup of espresso.

Congratulations, Una. I'm thrilled to see so many of my friends on the list - and there are a few stories I'd missed before that are now on my reading list. :-)

But much as I know you love Denethor, I have to say that I suspect he'd be a buzz-killer at any party. :-)

I wonder how quickly we could get him drunk, and what he'd be like? A psychotic drunk? A maudlin drunk? Or, most frightening prospect of all - a happy drunk?

Congratulations! "At Sea" is wonderful and you should be proud.

And I can't even explain how mortified I am that a story I wrote in 30 minutes for an improv, that was never betaed or edited, is sitting there with awards, especially considering that fannish competition is practically against my religion. Am thinking (after a week of really really struggling with Lupin/Snape) that perhaps I should never write anything over 500 words again.

Date: 2004-07-13 08:31 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com
Sometimes it just works out like that, I think - a good idea and inspiration strike, and the words all work together. Spartan Letters was written very quickly, but that one is another stunner.

Your struggles with Lupin/Snape are much appreciated.

Thanks! I’m feeling a bit stunned at the moment really – and, of course, Bilbo couldn’t have done it without you. :-)

Congrats to you too – especially for At Sea – and to everyone else, and many thanks to all the organisers - I can only imagine the amount work involved.

Right, I’m in new territory here so let’s hope I’ve done this properly ...

I have to admit that I am, in general, made nervous by competition, so I was a little apprehensive about these awards, but the Awards Committee was graciousness itself to me, and best of all, I found many fine stories I had never read before, including some of yours, Altariel. IMHO, any award anyone sends your way is richly deserved, and I can say that about the stories you list too.
