I'm not going to make a habit, I hope, of typing up bits of reviews from Doctor Who Magazine, but I thought [livejournal.com profile] communicator would like this one. It's from a review of the Big Finish audio drama The Twilight Kingdom [all typoes reproduced faithfully]:

"...it's fair to say that this is Doctor Who riding into Apocalypse Now. Rather than being about an US soldier in Vietnam journeying deep into the jungle to find a Colonel who's gone mad and set up his own outfit, it's the same situation but on another planet. Woe betide the listener who falls prey to expectation and expects to find Marlon Brando at the heart of this darkness, because instead he'll find Michael Keating..."

Headpiece filled with straw, no doubt. Alas!

instead he'll find Michael Keating...

LOL. I can't imagine him exuding quite the same air of brooding menace.

Really?! I bet he does a great job! Hm, I suspect Mr A. actually owns this - I should listen and find out.

Well, I will trust your judgement. I'm a great admirer of Michael Keating, but I can't imagine him as Kurtz.

Perhaps the key is that it's an audio drama, so we don't have to see Kurtz looking like aged Vila.

There's a Buffy episode where Xander finds his high school principal at the Heart of Darkness--played by Armon Shimerman, who was on DS9, wasn't he?

Joss Whedon's biography really should be called Apocalypse Now BTW.

Yep, Armin Shimerman played Quark in DS9. He did his Marlon Brando impression on DS9 first - the opening scene from The Godfather, in full latex mask. The man is a god.

That DS9 scene just cracked me up the last time I saw it, a few months ago. The episode irritates me, but that scene is fantastic. Quark, with actual power? Be scared. Be very scared.
