Regret I haven't read Carrie's War (or even seen the recent TV adaptation), though I think I read some other Nina Bawden as a kid. Do you know Jill Paton Walsh, as well? Another fine historical novelist for children - her Parcel of Patterns, about the plague in Eyam, just about did my ten-year-old self in :)
