Forgive me the terrible pun if I say I thought it stank. I really didn't get on with it at all. One of those books where the author (or, more particularly, the author's technique) is too present for me. (I feel this way about John Irving, btw - I feel manipulated by his books.)
Too much a book of the head, and not of the heart, I felt.
The rest of my reading group loved it - they liked the descriptions, and they were fascinated by the lead character. So it could just be me.
