I wish the East Coker group luck, but fear they will need it. The cuntryside around us is similarly peaceful (though not to so literary) and abuts various protected areas, yet a development of what amounts to a holiday village on farmland just up the road was allowed when central government overturned the local council's repeated planning refusals.
In this case, it seems to be the local council who want to develop, to the dismay of residents. They've got various luminaries like Andrew Motion onside, I think there's an attempt to get UNESCO to declare the area a World Heritage Site. I'll keep an eye out for news.
