Sarah Lefanu, in In the Chinks of the World Machine, gives 1974 as the date of the first 'women and science fiction' panel at a convention (p. 7).

The Feminist SF, Fantasy, and Utopia website, on their brief history page, makes it 1976 at MidAmericon.

(Both give the organiser as Susan Wood.)

Can anyone shed any light on which date is correct?

I'd imagine it's mentioned in Larbelestier (sp.) Battle of the Sexes or Merrick Secret Feminist Cabal (may be misremembering the title) and will look later; when was the Khatru special issue?

I'd appreciate that: thank you very much. Wikipedia says 1975 for the special issue.

Battle of the Sexes doesn't give a date that I can spot.

Thank you for checking that out. Secret Feminist Cabal restates 1974, at Discon II, and gives a panel title: "Women in SF: Image and Reality". I'm inclined to believe it was 1974.
