You can hear a sample of Clare Corbett's reading The Way Through the Woods here (you can also purchase the recording there too!). There's a rather nice review of the (dead tree version of the) book here (super-spoilery).

And I'm very pleased that my short story "War Without End" received an Honorable Mention in Gardner Dozois' Year's Best SF anthology. The story appears in the NewCon Press anthology Conflicts.

Yay and thrice yay! (Though must steer clear of the super-spoilery review, as haven't read TWTTW yet...)

Excellent news. :-) And damn fine review that, even a trifle spoilery. (Though I must confess that my own review consisted of OMGsqueee! because I couldn't work out how to review the thing without spoilers.)

The important fact in the review is that you need to read the book attentively and preferably twice! Which is very good advice.

So is it Clare Corbett or Meera Syal? I'm a bit confused now.

I am delighted by the spreading of the word, and the honorable mention. Hurrah, hurrah!

Congratulations for the honourable mention! Hurrah for the power of your words!

'too subtle and too modest'. I think that you're being mistaken for your evil twin. Again. ;) I saw her again today - she's still wearing the black cotton shirt and black, wide-legged, cropped, linen trousers. The Cath Kidston bag was absent this time but she still didn't manage to fool me.

FUCKING GOOD ON YOU. (And me, because I feel a warm glow of... not ownership, but stakeholderiness?... in that story.) But yayy! I'm glad some corners of SF are starting to get you.

It's Clare Corbett - not sure why it says Meera Syal, I think she may have read others in the range, so I assume it's an error. But it doesn't much sound like her on the sample!

It so happens that Heather and I are reading 'The Way Through the Woods' together. We started off reading alternate chapters to each other, but now we sit side-by-side, she follows my narration and voices Jess and Amy for me while I take care of Rory, the Doctor and any other male characters. She's loving it. :)

Congrats on the HM!

You were the sun towards which this story grew :-)

I've been very lucky in my representation in this anthology over the years: three honorable mentions, and one inclusion: that's 4 out of my 5 non tie-in stories!

It's so brilliant to imagine you both reading it together this way! I'm so pleased she likes it! :-D

If I were a statistician, I would be looking for another explanation than 'luck' at this rate...

There were copies of Way Through The Woods in Asda last week. Stupid failed to pick one up , and this week they'd all gone - but that's good - yes?
