It's a full life, if a trifle banal

A terrific trip. I didn't have space in the post to mention the incredibly hospitable and comfortable B&B (with the cosiest dressing gowns it has ever been my good fortune to meet), and the hotel where we had dinner (with the world's longest whisky menu and beer menu).

It's a puzzle why she went out of print. katlinel's thinking, and I'd tend to agree, is that the language used to discuss race in the St Jago books fell seriously out of fashion in the 1980s. Which is a shame, since her analysis of colonialism is very intelligent.
