The Horned One is upon us! It's ended up being John Abineri Day Chez Altariel, as we watch 'Hostage' for the [livejournal.com profile] b7rewatch, and episode 1 of 'Death to the Daleks' (more on that story later).

Also, he was Herne the Hunter in Robin of Sherwood.

Herne the Hunter: "They are all waiting. The blinded, the maimed, the men locked in the stinking dark, all wait for you. Children with swollen bellies hiding in ditches wait. The poor, the dispossessed, they all wait. You are their hope. You cannot escape. So must it be, Robin i' the Hood!"

You tell 'em, Herne.

Awww... Robin of Sherwood still takes a lot of beating. It was brilliant! Much better than the recent three seasons of poxy Robin the Hoodie (which was only rescued from total obscurity by Richard Armitage's Guy of Gisborne)

Aw, I am disappointed that the Wikipedia page for John Abineri doesn't say anything about how crucial he is to the narrative of Moths Ate my Doctor Who Scarf! He needs a 'references in popular culture' section.

I love RoS too. Couldn't sit through half a season of Robin Hoodie, even with the many charms of Richard Armitage to distract me!

I think we saw John Abineri in an Avengers episode recently. One of the ones with Steed and Cathy Gale, unless it was a Venus one in the same series.

Herne kept Robin's nose to the grindstone, all right :-) That whole madly-mystical thread to Robin of Sherwood was one of the things that captivated me about it when I was a kid. (Well, all right, and Michael Praed in lots of leather and rags...) Mind you, we caught one or two episodes when it was being rerun recently and I couldn't get over how slow it all feels by contemporary standards - not just the lovely lyrical forest stuff, but the action scenes! Just shows you how our viewing expectations have unconsciously altered, I suppose...

I watched RoS in a massive binge of episodes when I was at college: you discover very quickly that there are roughly four pieces of incidental music.
