Our Doctor Who From The Very Beginning project madness continues apace. We're now at the end of season 2.

Planet of Giants
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: Surprisingly, I really enjoyed that. It's like The Avengers crossed with Doctor Who without the silly fight at the end. It's also shot in a beautifully stylised Sixties way.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: Yes, that one has had a bad press and doesn't deserve it. The set design is really clever; I loved the huge sink with the actors running around the plug. Liked the 'Silent Spring' story as well. Right decision to cut the fourth episode though.

The Dalek Invasion of Earth
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: Starts well and then the guest cast arrive. The Daleks are good in this one, you can see why they were popular, but the dialogue... *winces*
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: Oh god, the actor playing David is terrible! Still, it's Terry Nation's better contribution to the season. Trying to steal the Earth? They'll never pull that one off.

The Rescue
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: Hurray! Susan's gone! Susan's gone! Episode 1 is good, and episode 2 sucks and blows. The best bit is Barbara Pet-Murderer.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: I don't care what anyone says, I like Vicki. I liked the Koquillion costume too.

The Romans
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: O tempora! O mores!
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: This is great, proper Carry On, loads of fun, lots for Ian and Barbara to do. Already sad at the thought of them leaving. Definitely the story of the season.

The Web Planet
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: We braced ourselves for this, never having stayed awake all the way through a one sitting viewing. We needn't have worried, this was great. It's mad!
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: Single episode viewing was definitely the way to go. I got really absorbed in this, although I do confess to a nap in episode 4. But it was 6.15am and I hadn't yet got the energy rush from my porridge.

The Crusade
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: The episodes with pictures were good. But the audio only were disappointingly difficult to follow.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: My big disappointment of the season, and I love Julian Glover, me. Perhaps it woud have made a difference if there had been narration on the audio.

The Space Museum
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: First episode is great, and then Boba Fett's Beat Revolutionaries arrive. And hey, kids, it all works out fine!
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: Yes, we must be frightened of the young. This was a little bit silly. No, worse, it all had a terrible inevitability about it, and I love fascist-and-rebels stories. Is this really the first one of these in Doctor Who? I suppose there's 'The Dalek Invasion of Earth'.

The Chase
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: The Plod. What happens if 'The Keys of Marinus' has the title and the plot shaved off? It can only be rescued by stuffing the Daleks into it.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: Ah, the dread words: 'Written by Terry Nation'. I'm a bit sad that this is Ian and Barbara's last story, they deserve something better. You think William Russell looks demob-happy all the way through, don't you? I'm sure he'll go on to great things. Their last scene in London is very sweet though.

The Time Meddler
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: Nearly pipped 'The Romans' for top spot. Great set design, a nice cast (good to see Althea Wotsit from '100,000 BC' again). Lovely Peter Butterworth. And Vikings! You've got to love Vikings.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: Yes, that was lots of fun, and it's really exciting to see someone else's TARDIS. A bit too much of the 'we just missed you' school of plotting, but I think Peter Purves is a really good addition.
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: Oh, yes, Peter Purves! And, more importantly, his brilliant panda.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: What's that panda called? I can't be bothered to look it up online. Anyone?

[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: Shall we listen to 'Galaxy 4' then? It is our right and duty.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: Hmm, we're a bit short of visual material from here on, aren't we? Never mind, they'll invent colour telly soon enough.
