Poor Egg-Blon.

Mr A's secret favourite in the season. It's a think-piece, about a mid-range band struggling to come to terms with success... oh no, that's Almost Famous. Still, another under-rated episode, mainly because Annette Badland is, like the Democrats, just so funny.

Cardiff Bay really is lovely.

I'm enjoying your marathon!

It's also the first episode in which Noel Clarke really shines as Mickey. That bit where he finally explodes at Rose, saying something like "Do you expect me to wait around for you forever? Because I would!" is a stonkingly good piece of writing, and Clarke sells it like he'd just dodged getting fired from The Apprentice.

Yes, it's me again.

I like "Boom Town" quite a bit too, though the pedant in me won't forgive the easily-avoidable deus ex machina. This is Eccleston at his best, but my favorite moment is probably Mickey shouting "It's always gonna be the Doctor, and it's never gonna be me!" as Rose runs away and the world shakes around them.

Apropos of nothing: the journalist's "Sounds like you got here just in time!" is the only Slitheen bodily-noise joke that I object to, and that's just because it's a really weird thing to say to someone you're interviewing.

Annette Badland should be the next Doctor. They could do it. The Doctor is killed in a way that prevents his regeneration, but it turns out that the Tardis light show actually imbued the egg with Essence of Doctor.

I have a secret liking for this one; Annette Badland is always good value.

I, too, rewatched this last night because I felt a sudden craving for season 1 Doctor Who episodes (must be a result of reading all your marathon entries).

Annette Badland is indeed fabulous, and ... poor Mickey. *sniffles*

I should probably have added a sniffle for the closing shot of the Millennium Centre - it's very beautiful.

The bank holiday - and the marathon - are still young!

Your icon reminds me that I forgot to say that it's my favourite Rose outfit too.

I saw her the other week in a Miss Marple ('A Pocketful of Rye') playing a very shy, not very bright servant girl. It took me ages to place her!

I want her scarf -- it's very colourful and cute.

I like the pigtails.

Yeah, these are cute, too. Which is well-nigh astonishing because not that many girls and women over the age of 13 can actually wear them without looking rather silly.

I think is a really good episode for Eccleston too (I like his performance in 'Bad Wolf' best). It's a quiet sort of episode, just before the final two-parter, but the writing and characterization are so strong. The end has this sort of golden glow about it, just before the shit hits the fan.

Love it :-D I do like her as a villain though; there's always the Rani.

I heard a Footballer's Wife had been attached to the Rani Rumour? But I have a sneaking suspicion Badland gets cast as baddies because of her figure. I've heard her play leads on the radio, and she was excellent. (The big disappointment was her appearance as Hazel Woolley in The Archers. It was an opportunity to make Hazel into a three-dimensional villain, but no, they barely gave her two, and it made me wince to hear her putting so much into someone so boring.)
