Poor dalek.

I wish my eyes glowed blue in the dark and my mid-section rotated on demand to kill my enemies.

Eccleston doesn't quite pull it off, but it is triffic anyway.

This is one of the episodes that's gone down a bit in my estimation over time. It's still excellent (of course), but I don't see it as miles above the surrounding episodes the way I used to. It's all very focused and involving, but there doesn't seem to be as much variety of material as in other episodes. I like the bits with Rose and Adam, even if he does turn into a prat the following week.

I think a casing would entirely spoil the look of the rotating middle section.

I think it is absolutely beautifully directed, so many wonderful touches like the Doctor's face being encased by the reflection of the Cyberman head, Van Statten mirroring the pose of the copy of the Lempicka painting. I really like 'The Long Game' and think it's suffered unfairly by comparisons with 'Dalek'.
