Well, b*gg*r me sideways - it turns out that Clonemaster Fen in Weapon is played by Kathleen Byron, who was tempted nun Sister Kate in Powell and Pressburger's Black Narcissus. Blimey, you live and learn.

And you can tell, too. What lovely cheekbones.

Everything revolves around Blakes Seven: the black heart of British drama

Yes indeed. And I'm just so pleased that there are still really interesting things to find out about it.

Black Narcissus - one of those films I keep meaning to see one day.

Is it any good?

Oooh, interesting. I rather liked Clonemaster Fen (for all she was rather fond of the Big OverBlown gesture). The actress has an interesting face :)

Er, did you deliberately swap the labels?

She really is. Gorgeous face, and so much personality in it.

I think it's fantastically good, but then Powell and Pressburger (the director and producer) made some of my favourite films (particularly A Matter of Life and Death - see icon).

Dammit, though, I just (literally, last week) gave my tape of it to a charity shop, otherwise I would have stuck it in the post.

Yes. (Usually done with these kind of picture comparisons?)

I'm sort of craving Fen-fic now. What turned the nun into the stem-cell researcher?

I like Fen too - despite the Big OverBlown Gesture (and the woooo-aaaa music), she conveys grace and stature. Gives Servie a run for her money.

She was seeking a quick and reliable method of propogating the Abbey's geraniums. That night she sneezed into the dish of home-made cell culture, forgot about it and locked uo the lab for the evening. Next morning, she opened up to find that her cells had differetiated and grown at such a rate that, before her on the side was a miniature clone of herself. The technique was perfected and the rest, as they say, is history...

See this is why i don't write fanfic...

Servie would want to know more about that.

Wow!

Black Narcissus was one of the first movies I rented when I signed with Netflix. (That and I Know Where I'm Going.

My VCR turned into a tape-mangling monster some months ago, so I'm strictly DVD these days.

That was the first Powell & Pressburger I ever saw, and for a long time, the only. It's wonderful. I adore Catriona.

A Matter of Life and Death was my first, I remember watching it very late on a Friday night, when I was teenager.

Hey Una, was thinking about you recently cos I burned a DVD copy of our immortal appearance on that B7 docu 10 years ago. Thought I'd look you up again. Tried to email you a couple of years back but I guess the address didn't work. Glad to see you are still keeping the faith! Reba and I are still in touch, although she's back in the USA now, for good probably. This PD autobiography - I must have it!
love, Pita

Hi Pita! How lovely to hear from you! I was thinking about you only last week and wondering how you were. Yes, I'm still keeping the faith, though I do range every so often into writing Deep Space Nine and Tolkien stuff. The PD autobiography is a hoot, I think you'd really enjoy it.

I'm so glad to hear from you; do stay in touch. Current most reliable email is: umm10 AT yahoo DOT co DOT uk
