Good pickings in town today, including one of the Dolphin Rings books by Rosemary Sutcliff that I was missing, The Silver Branch, and the bookshop owner taking pity on me when I came up to the till with a pile and then saw the one I'd gone if for (he knocked 50p off).

Got Brendan Kennelly's Glimpses: very short poems, no more than a few lines, vernacular and sharp and funny:

"No place like home," she said,
     eighty in her rocking chair
"where you can spit in the fire
     saucer your tea
and call the cat a bastard."

Glad I'm not the only one who swears at their cat ;-)

Very yay. Maybe I should go book shopping. I have been paid, after all. (That's yay! too.)

Yay! I'm glad you did so well. Were they all from David's? That place has such a turnover of really good books, it's fantastic.

Btw, have you seen that Susan Cooper is going to be at Heffers next month?

I got a small pile of children's books (including a couple of Rosemary Sutcliff's) from the market: funny little stall that's only there in the week and looks really bare, but always turns up some good stuff.

And I hadn't seen she'll be at Heffers! Must check the date on that...

Oh, I think I know the one you mean - the one that turns into a hardback stall on Thursdays? I don't often get to see it, but I've found some good stuff there, too. Nice finds!

I *think* it's 3rd March. She's there to talk about her new book (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0370328914). I've got a leaflet of their events on my desk at work; I'll check it later.

A Time For Voices is a collection of poems from 1960=1990.

And here he is reading some his poetry.

Yes, that's the one. It never looks like it's well stocked, and then all sorts of treasures turn up.

And thank you for finding out the information on Susan Cooper's talk!

Thank you! The Archive is a heck of a resource.

I'd not found the Archive before yesterday; I foresee many happy hours browsing.
