I'm hooked on Lost, m'self. The show always opens quite well, and the cliffhangers are pretty strong (except for when they play out with soft rock music, which makes me pull out large amounts of my hair); but the middle of each episode seems to trail off somehow.
If they're capable of creating such good dramatic tension at the start and end, I'm mystified as to why they can't always carry it right through. Sure, I appreciate that you have to vary the tone in order for the drama to work, but a lot of the show is just uninteresting and unnecessary IMO.
