90 days

I'm going out teaching in a minute, but I'd rather be at home watching the debate on the terror bill. The vote will happen while I'm out and I'm hideously afraid this 90 day thing will get through. Because, of course, me sitting at home watching and using my special mind powers would obviously make some kind of difference.

I'll stare at it for you.

I was in Spain at the time of the 1992 General Election. Even though I was glued to the TV coverage there, it still didn't feel like enough.

I hope the teaching goes well, and I hope it hasn't all gone pear-shaped by the time you get back. Unfortunately, they're trying very hard.

Like the icon. Hope you don't feel too distracted all afternoon.

Are the results out? The Beeb opinion poll wasn't looking good when last I looked. (You might have to vote to get the up-to-date numbers.)

I tried to exercise my power by emailing our MP, but since my first attempt bounced and only got through this morning, and he along with the rest of his party were opposed to the bill in any case, I think it probably didn't have a decisive influence in Parliament.

Perhaps your mind powers did though?

Anyway, I'm feeling profoundly relieved at this moment.

MPs did something that was a) intelligent, b) right, c) against public opinion.

I'm dreaming, right?

The British are more intelligent than the Australians. Our current government is trying the same sort of thing with "industrial reform" as well as "terror laws". They're going to win because they have the majority in both houses and they are doing everything they can to squash review and debate.

Viva la revolution!

Congratulations! Even in absentia, your mind powers seem to have done the trick.

I turned all my frustration into positive teaching energy, or 'ranting' as it's better known.

Lots of relief at this end too. Not sure what my mind powers contributed other than a bad explanation of group dynamic theories to some slightly interested undergraduates ;-D

I focused very hard on something else all afternoon (teaching and hot chocolate).

It's all part of their university experience.

Seems like your mind powers did the trick, after all.

I'd love to think I can bend the world to my will, I just doubt... nah, I just love to think I can bend the world to my will.

Do you think you could use your mind powers on a fellow Commonwealth country's Federal Parliament? Or would the distance be too great?

Much thanks. If that doesn't work on the Australian PM, I might have to ask if I can borrow the penguins...
