Me: Oh look the woman detective's finally got some lines.
Mr A. [patient]: She's always had lines, you just don't hear them because you're always complaining she has no lines.
[watching of show]
Me: I really like this programme, but it does worry me that the criminals are always women.
[more watching of show]
Me: Except tonight.
[even more watching of show]
Me: OK, well, if the criminal is not a woman, then it's somebody insane. This show is prejudiced against women and the insane.
Mr A.: The leads are a woman and someone insane.
Me: That's even worse. That means that they're contributing to upholding the hegemony that marginalizes them.
[Mr A. gives chilly stare]
Me: I'm very sad about the Big Damn Movie.
[Stare gets chillier]
Me [pointing across room]: Look! Penguins!
