LJ Interests meme results
  1. burnt norton:
Little Gidding is my favourite Quartet, but any port in a storm. Go, go, go, said the bird: human kind / Cannot bear very much reality.
  2. chopin:
If I was ever to enter into a Faustian bargain, it would be in order to become a virtuoso piano player. Sadly the Devil has never troubled to drop by the house.
  3. doomed love:
I invented this an interest for my Blake's 7 fanfic journal [livejournal.com profile] deadship, specifically for Avon and Anna, and then it turned out to be a lonely interest (obviously everyone else is at the happy party where the happy lovers hang out), so I added it on this journal too.
  4. fabulous skies:
I like fabulous skies, be they sunsets or just the vast bright blue that frequently swallows up this city. "People Do Bad Things Under Fabulous Skies" stands as a working title for any novel I have in progress.
  5. gadamer:
Unfashionable hermeneutic philosopher, a bad reading of whose big book Truth and Method bulks out the second chapter of my Ph.D. thesis
  6. infj:
"Pshaw!" said [livejournal.com profile] altariel1, on first being presented with the idea of Myers-Briggs, "I eschew psychometrics! But in the interests of not coming to snap judgements based on little in the way of detailed knowledge, I shall take the test and read the summary for my own type... oh bugger, it nails me, particularly the bit about making snap judgements based on little in the way of detailed knowledge."
  7. new zealand:
I have had two excellent holidays in New Zealand, one in the North Island, one in the South, where I was much taken by the fabulous skies, the hospitality of just about everyone, and the very few people.
  8. saffic:
The only slash I have written in femslash, only I like the word "saffic" more, because it is a clever coinage, and does not rely on sticking a suffix in front of slash.
  9. t s eliot:
More of an addiction than an interest.
  10. tove jansson:
See icon. Amongst other achievements, the creator of the Moomins. Oh look at this great story I just found on Wikipedia: "Jansson has said that she had designed the Moomins in her youth: when she lost a philosophical quarrel about Immanuel Kant with her brother, she drew "the ugliest creature imaginable" on the wall of their WC and wrote under it "Kant"." Gadamer didn't like Kant much either, but took longer to say it.

That's a lovely selection from the clever automated thingy.

At least three of my favourite children's books have doomed love in them.

2. the Devil has never troubled to drop by the house

He's far too busy taking lessons from your Garak.

3. But even Chapter 2 is a stonking good read.

8. I really like the word, so clever in more than one way, and alluding to a whole range of new possibilities.

It is, isn't it? The selection it comes up with for me isn't wonderful; I think I might cheat if/when I eventually get round to doing it.

I love the story about Tove Jansson. And do come and see our fabulous skies again (currently a high, cold blue with with clouds, some pregnant with rain: sunshowers on the way).

My brain is now trying to write stories about a devil named Sadly.

I would love to come and see the fabulous skies again, and the long white cloud.

I've been very lucky. The first was to visit my brother and meet his fiancee, the second was to go to their wedding.

3. But even Chapter 2 is a stonking good read.

:-D If a dodgily argued stonking good read.

Add or take away some interests. Or just pick a handful that you want to talk about!

I think Sadly the Devil is like Frosty the Snowman, only more diabolically melancholy.

I was pleased with the selection it came up.

At least three of my favourite children's books have doomed love in them.

Two of Engdahl's books do. What are you thinking of in particular?

There are a lot more than there used to be. Still only a handful for "domed cities", however.

Gorgeous icon. I once fanficced that poem.

I think I may do the latter! Trying to overhaul my interests in preparation for this would probably take me so long that I'd forget why I was doing it in the first place...

The original, 'manual' version of this meme, where you selected every Xth interest, depending on how many interests you have, came up with a few interesting ones, though they weren't all ones that I'd choose. I may use that list as a basis.

Make that four then, because I was just thinking of Enchantress from the Stars. (I tend to think of Elana's story primarily when I think about those books.)

The other two are The Keeper of the Isis Light by Monica Hughes and A Traveller In Time by Alison Uttley. The latter is absolutely stuffed full of doomed love.

More reasons to read 'A Traveller in Time', yay!

I'd forgotten Pullman's 'The Amber Spyglass'.

I'll love to hear what you make of it!

I'd forgotten The Amber Spyglass too. But I did feel it was the right and proper ending for Will and Lyra. I love to think of them sitting on their park benches thinking of each other.
