New Sapphire and Steel audio dramas from Big Finish omigosh!

Steel will be played by David Warner and Sapphire by Susannah Harker.

It doesn't say who's written it, or if any of the original makers are even involved. And I suspect I'll keep hearing Mattie Storin...

As long as they don't let the criminal who wrote the B7 radio dramas anywhere near the script, that's great news!

The people at Big Finish have been doing the Dr Who audio dramas which my resident expert thinks are brilliant. I have high hopes - S&S is the kind of drama that should suit the audio format.

I'll be hearing Angie March from Ultraviolet. The Big Finish Dr Who audio dramas have been extremely good, according to my resident expert.

Not McCallum and Lumley? Will it really be Sapphire & Steel without them?

Hm. House of Cards/Ultraviolet crossover slash. It could work.

It is a good choice of replacements, though, I have to say. I wonder why the originals weren't approached (or if they were and said no)?

FU and a vampire conspiracy. I see mileage in the political aspects too.

Duh, I must learn to take in information when I read it or try to transfer it at least from short-term to medium-term memory. Looks like they were approached.

All that proves is that they know how to write Doctor Who. The Tomorrow People ones were crap -- they were too much like Doctor Who.

On the other hand... thinking of some of the Big Finish Who adventures I've heard, I think they might actually be able to pull it off, because there is enough overlap in the tone of the creepier Who adventures to get close enough to Sapphire & Steel.

I was going to protest that it could never be the same without the originals, no matter who they picked, but David Warner is probably a good choice, since it's the voice that's the thing (sufficiently British and grim). As long as I'm not thinking of the chief bad-guy from Tron...

Sapphire by Susannah Harker

You might think so. I couldn't possibly comment.

And that they can do good audio drama, I suppose. I think S&S should lend itself to audio drama, particularly if the performances are good (and they should be, with those two!).

I had great hopes for the original Sapphire & Steel (especially because Illya Kuryakin was my first-ever crush) but I recently managed to rent a couple of the arcs on video and both my SF-loving boyfriend and I found it extremely disappointing. Nothing happened, at excruciating length.

It works better watching it from week to week.

I liked Susannah Harker so much as Mattie Storin, that in the sword and sorcery fantasy, which I sometimes think about, and will never write, the heroine is called 'Harker'.
