Callan novel

Oh yes! The Callan novel I found online last week (Death and Bright Water) has just arrived!

James Mitchell wrote five novels based on his Seventies spies grim-fest Callan. I own two, got a third from the library (published recently, total disaster), and now I've got my mucky paws on this one (published 1974).

Had a quick flick through. Here is Callan's first appearance:

Callan looked down from the overpass.

*hearts* All it needs is a justice machine and it's Blake's 7.

And in the darkened underpass I thought, oh God, my chance has come at last/ but then a strange fear gripped me and I just couldn't ask...

(why yes i am still listening only and continuously to the smiths why do you ask?)

There is a light that never goes out

And why not indeed?

Because soon the students will arrive and see me doing Morrisseyface and clutching my heart as I walk to campus...

And then they shall love you even more.

Where? Where? Where?

What? What? What?

You mean, what are they called?

A Magnum for Schneider - also published as Red File for Callan and Callan - (1969)
Russian Roulette (1973)
Death and Bright Water (1974)
Smear Job (1975)
Bonfire Night (2002)

I've been picking them up as they turn up on Amazon on the cheap.

Cool. Didn't know there were any. :)

Yes, I was thrilled when I found out, it was like getting new episodes! The novels are:

A Magnum for Schneider - also published as Red File for Callan and Callan - (1969)
Russian Roulette (1973)
Death and Bright Water (1974)
Smear Job (1975)
Bonfire Night (2002)

Yeah, definitely have to have a look!

2002???!!?

2002???!!?

Yeah, I couldn't believe it either! James Mitchell died in 2002: I wonder if he felt the need to finish Callan's story? Don't kill yourself trying to find that one though- it's dreadful (I got it from the library). A Red File for Callan and Russian Roulette are pure Callan though. (Haven't finished Death and Bright Water yet, although it's already had a great Callan and Lonely scene.)

ZOMG!!! ARG!! ARG!! ARG!!

I loved the TV series, and only recently found a copy of Red File For Callan.

And now there's four more! Ooh, wants!

I can highly recommend Russian Roulette and Death and Bright Water. I haven't read Smear Job yet, although I found it cheaply at Abebooks last week, yay!

Sadly the most recent one, Bonfire Night, is rubbish.
