PicoWriMo lives!

It seems that [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo will be running again in November!

What is [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo? From the community info page:
"PicoWriMo started out as a place for people who wanted to participate in some of the madness and achievement of NaNoWriMo, but wanted a more realistic target - say 500 or 5000 words.

We got together for November 2006. Members set their own goals for the month, and it was so successful that we decided to go again in November 2007, and again in 2008.

To this end we have daily prompts for people to post about what progress they're making and to give encouragement to others to hit their writing targets.

There are no goals other than those you set for yourself, and no compulsion beyond what you put upon yourself. There are no limits on genre, style, age, or experience, and both fiction and non-fiction are welcome.

Participants are welcome to post excerpts (rated for a general audience), ask questions and for advice, provide insight into the writing life, and so on. Although we are not a reviewing, editing, or beta-reading community, links to completed stories are also welcome.

The only thing we ask is that you help keep the atmosphere friendly and supportive."

So if you have been thinking you would like to write something, but you can't face the thought of 50k, try [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo!

5k sounds far more sensible than 50k!

:-) NaNo is a lot of fun, but so many people have said to me what an unrealistic target 50k was for them, that this seemed a nice idea for a community. (Feel free to pass the link onto anyone you think might find it a helpful exercise.)

Much more realistic! And definitely interesting to me since the series of linked stories I have been gradually writing in The Charioteer universe recently hit a snag (which neither I, nor my usual beta - my sister - can figure out). This should get me kick-started again (I don't want to quit as I'm only halfway through telling this character's 'story'). Do I sign up on the PicoWriMo community itself?

Oh good! Yes, it does sound like exactly what you need to get you going again. Do sign up directly to the comm: November is going to be frantic for me, so I not going to be able to mod and might not get much of a chance to check in.

Usually there's a post on October 31st for people to say hello and give a bit of information about their project. After that, there's a post each day for people to give updates on their progress and to cheer each other along. [livejournal.com profile] vilakins did sterling work on doing these posts last year.

This might be just what I need. I'm away quite a lot in November, but having, say, a 5K goal would be definitely workable. And I've got the start of a story and would like to find out where it wants to go!

I really should do Pico again, since Nano is way beyond me.

Good, I'm glad it will be useful for you. As far as I'm concerned, [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo should keep running as long as there are people willing to do the daily posts in November.
