NaArMaMo Day 10

Nothing fancy, just a shot of our herb garden around 8am this morning.

Part of my ongoing project to document changes to our garden since 2005. Compare this from spring 2006:

And today:

That's lovely!

Could you come across the pond and take care of our backyard? Please?

Oh, that's lovely!

How do you keep off the slugs?

You could fly the guy from next door over - he's the one that looks after ours!

I find them too bitter, so I don't have any problem leaving them on the plate.

I commend to you our next-door neighbour! (I'd be happy to come over and sit in your garden when it's done!)

They're all in the composter (not shown).

That's funny . . . because our next door neighbor has a picture perfect yard, and we half-joke that it's good we have a privacy fence so that it's harder for passersby to compare his yard with our weed-infested nightmare. But, no matter how many times we ask, he won't take care of ours as well.

He isn't married, nor does he have kids. He spends most of his free time in his yard. Strange thing is, he hates mowing, so he keeps decreasing the amount of grass by increasing flowers, shrubs, etc., that take much more time and effort to maintain than grass. Of course, we don't even maintain our grass properly!

So, if you ever find yourself in Minnesota, you'll have to be satisfied with sitting on our falling-apart deck while looking over the fence at a nice garden . . .

You seem to have the best deal to me: you get to enjoy looking at someone else's beautiful garden without all the hassle.

Ha! - in the way I hate emptying the dishwasher, and will do the washing up instead.

Oh, wow, you guys have done a great job.

All our next-door neighbour's work, we simply admire and enjoy.

That's really beautiful and peaceful.

That's a lovely herb garden--well, a lovely garden altogether!

I see dill and sage, thyme and rosemary. You, too, can live from now till Judgement Day on processed food!

That's lovely! Looks like a very pleasant spot for a summer afternoon.

Very different from when you were here!

Lovely on summer afternoons, although it's been tipping it down the past week or so. Or else very windy.

There's some lavendar there too, and I think there's also oregano.

:-D

Particularly peaceful first thing in the morning: the sun hits it in a certain way, and you can hear the traffic starting to build up, but you're secluded from it.

Very different, indeed!

Your weather sounds like ours, at least until a couple of days ago. Had any snow? ;)

...you can hear the traffic starting to build up, but you're secluded from it.

That's nicer, in a way, than being completely insulated from it - it emphasises the peacefulness :)

Not yet - although there was a blizzard over Easter!

Exactly - like being tucked up inside when it's a dark and stormy night :-)
