DS9: The Never Ending Sacrifice

Pocket Books announced their upcoming Star Trek schedule at Shore Leave last weekend, and if you scroll right down that page to September 2009, you'll see my name attached to a forthcoming DS9 novel called The Never Ending Sacrifice: "Continuation of the post-TV DS9 saga with emphasis on the Cardassians."

The Never Ending Sacrifice is the title of a book that Garak called "the finest Cardassian novel ever written". I'd better not disappoint.

In the meantime, you can read me coming across as grumpy in an interview with SFX about franchise fiction and shared universes.

Go, you! You come across as very definite and articulate in the interview, not grumpy.

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed reading it :-)

This is, wow. Another novel? Many, many thanks are coming your way from this corner.

I hope you enjoy it when it's finally out! :-)

SFX, haven't bought a copy of that in years. I notice that they still position the cover star (Batman in this case) to obscure the base of the F and thus make the title look like SEX.

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2008-07-16 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
No, I haven't bought SFX in years either. The SEX thing in the title is so wild and rebellious it's almost like punk.

You know, I never bought a Star Trek novel in my life, but knowing your writing I actually find myself tempted to do so!

Thank you! :-) (And it's good to hear from you.)

About damn time.

Thanks, Jim! I'm really looking forward to getting stuck into this one.

Great interview, and great news! I"m sure Garak will approve.

Thank you! I hope he will, I don't like it when he's angry.

Thank you! :-D I might need to get your advice on a minor issue in it at some point: I'll get back to you on that one (she says mysteriously).

Congrats!

And thank you for the beautiful postcard!

I'm late, but: **Congratulations!!**

That is just awesome news about your new book!

I didn't think you sounded at all grumpy in the interview, and I enjoyed reading your responses very much - particularly the excellent commentary on "non-original" (so to speak) fiction.

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2008-07-20 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I'm really excited about it!

Glad I don't sound grumpy: I wasn't sure whether or not I got carried away on the subject of 'original' vs. 'derivative' fic, something about which I can probably bore for Britain!
