Boston Legal

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] cruisedirector for posting the link to this article about Denny Crane and Alan Shore (William Shatner and James Spader) from Boston Legal, television's best married couple.

"Buoyed by [...] viewer feedback, the writers began to pair up the two in other, off-balcony situations, taking the male-bonding relationship to unexpected but natural-feeling levels of closeness: a fishing trip that included a spooning scene in bed, dressing as matching flamingos at a party, and being tied together with a rope as Denny kept Alan from hurting himself while sleepwalking during an attack of night terrors."

If you're not watching Boston Legal - let me say again, flamingos!!

Well, it leaves me intrigued about what an on-balcony situation is.

It's got Rene Auberjonois in it too.

On or off the balcony?

If he has taken part in any balcony situations, I've not seen that particular episode. I can't imagine anyone other than Alan and Denny up there, to be honest. It would sully something beautiful.

I love Boston Legal. I only discovered it when season 2 came on here and I need to buy the S1 DVDs. I really watch it for Alan and Denny though Shirley Schmidt is a great character too. The interchangeable pretty, plastic young lawyers with big lips and shiny hair I can do without.

Thanks for the link to the article. Like the writer, I want to see close friendship valued instead of being turned into sexual attraction which is fine in itself but devalues the whole idea of friendship. Bonds formed in war (or on rebel spaceships) can be very strong.

It seems Shirley season 1, *gasp*! I don't mind Brad and Denise, they keep me amused in the periods when Alan and Denny aren't on screen.

Shirley what in season 1? :-)

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2006-09-25 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
Oops - "is missing from" season 1, ironically! Teach me to reply pre-coffee.

I suspected she might not be from how she was introduced. But I suppose I get to see the guy who went bananas in S2.

Poole is in an episode at the end of S2 - and in the very first episode, it seems. I haven't seen S1 either, I wish one of my thousands of channels would show some repeats.

Yeah, he turns up at work naked from the waist down. A good start to what was to me a new series I thought.

I'll have to look around for a decent price. I don't want to pay the $98 they want here.

Found a new set on TradeMe (our own eBay) for $74 and bought it. :-P The tottering pile of DVDs grows.

This price is about what I'd pay for a set from the US or UK but without the huge amount of postage.

Well done! Look forward to hearing how S1 compares to the "classic" line-up! ;-D

Greg's off to Singapore tomorrow for a week or so; I'll have to wait till he gets back because he's a fan too.

Oh and the Rome S1 DVDs are on their way too. I missed that one as well.

I'll be really interested to hear what you think of Rome, because critics have been very divided!

Hope your week by yourself goes OK - Mr A. comes back from a week in the US today.

I confused Rome with the apparently dreadful Empire, thinking it was a sequel, so I didn't watch until it was too late to get into. A fellow re-enactor tells me it's pretty good, so I'm looking forward to it.
