Assorted domesticities

The new fan has arrived, and comes in a gazillion tiny parts. Its squatting downstairs at the back of the house while I lurk upstairs at the front, summoning up my strength for what's going be a battle of wills worthy of The Krypton Factor.

Meanwhile, in the Metal Men poll: A late surge put Portugal ahead (wow, it's like livejournal mimicking life or something), so I expect to see the Doctor save the universe next week by repeatedly diving to the ground and getting the Cyber-Controller sent off.

I watched most of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow over the weekend. So far so good. Then The Sandbaggers season 2 DVD arrived, and everything has stopped for it.

Sandbaggers Season 2!!! We looked the other week and it wasn't out. Dashing off to order it right now. Thanks.

Three episodes in and I think this season is better than the first one. Enjoy!

Good luck with the fan. If all else fails, you could just pick up the largest part, and create a breeze by waving it around a bit.

I've been watching The Omega Factor from the DVD rental place. It's scary!

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 09:14 am (UTC)(link)
You know, that's not a bad idea...

It is very scary! We finished it up a couple of weeks back - let me know what you think when you've watched the lot.

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
Being Very Old, I think I saw bits of it the first time round (there are a couple of things that I remember - one of them being the streetlights in the first episode). Some of it gives me the giggles, but then it promptly gets revenge by scaring the hell out of me.

[identity profile] katlinel.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
The Omega Factor is still scary then? Good.

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes. Yes, indeed.

I'm sorry you're still off. I hope you're getting better, though.

Only bits of it? Shame on you ;-)

I was an addict--Sea of Souls is but a pale imitation (albeit with added Scots). The only thing I liked more was Star Cops.

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it's possible I saw the whole thing, but I have only one or two memories of it. I think it *may* have been on on the evening that my grandmother always came to visit, which could explain the disruption.

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
Sea of Souls got better across the run - I wonder if we'll get more? Much Star Cops love in this journal! :-D

I saw it too when it was first shown here -- it was my B7 replacement, being shown in the same timeslot. Then I decided it was too Occult and got rid of my tapes.

I'm really enjoying revisiting it after all this time; I suspect that this kind of thing is going to be my main use for online DVD rental. Next stop, Sapphire and Steel.

I'm looking forward to the bit where the Doctor kicks the Black Dalek in the bollocks.

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 09:19 am (UTC)(link)
They shouldn't show this stuff before the watershed.

[identity profile] katlinel.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
Good luck with the bits of fan. The one I bought for my office was only in three pieces so it wasn't such a daunting task.

Wishing dexterity (and sinisterity or whaever the word is) to your elegant hands!

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
Sinister hands, that's what I need.

I haven't quite got everything out of the box yet. The instructions list at least up to part 'O' in the alphabet. How hard can it be?!

The new fan has arrived

I can't be the only one who read that and thought, "Who's that, then?"

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
It's like an advert for soapsuds: "New Biological Fan!"

[identity profile] sugoll.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Plus, the scary thought that fans are a commodity...

[identity profile] toft-froggy.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
EEEEE! Alec Guinness icon! SNAP!

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, your icon is ever so good! Snap again!

We bought a fan made in China, where they do not have unions, so workers are still forced to assemble products before they put them in the box.

Damn outsourcing!

[identity profile] jhall1.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I bought a deak fan for our living room yesterday. It was £6.99 in the Co-op. I was proud of myself for assembling it, even though the instructions seemed to relate to a slightly different model. However in came in only four parts, if you discount 1 nut and 1 bolt, so it was fairly straightforward.

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, our local Co-op was only displaying BOGOF diet coke 6-packs last time I went in. Our fan is up and running now, after a brief panic about a missing piece.

[identity profile] jhall1.livejournal.com 2006-07-05 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
Congratulations!

Thankfully it seems to be a fair bit cooler here today.

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2006-07-05 09:00 am (UTC)(link)
Grey and muggy here. I'm still waiting for the thunderstorm I was promised yesterday. Although round about 4pm there was a huge flash of lightning (practically at me, I think the gods of weather must have caught up with reading my LJ), a grumble of thunder, and three or four rainspots on one window. A minor essay in the craft of storming, I think.
