Too hot

Right, gods of weather, that's it, I'm not going outside again this week. Not unless there's rain, and the sky is grey, and it's a good seven or eight degrees cooler than it is now, and - dammit, WIMBLEDON is on, why isn't it chucking it down?! Stupid rubbish gods.

Maybe they're ill? Or on holiday? It was graduation at the end of last week, and, so far as I could tell, there wasn't a drop of rain on any of the days. Very odd.

it's horrible, isn't it? I've already had a row with one ex-LJ friend who lives in Florida because apparently I'm only allowed to complain about the heat if it's hotter here that it is there.

heat makes me cranky.

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, there's airconditioning in the US. And I live in temperate regions for a reason.

exactly.

I'm starting to loathe the South Coast, although apparently it's not noticeably cooler in Scotland at the moment.

maybe I should up sticks and move to the Falkland Islands. I wonder how they're fixed for broadband internet?

I'm contemplating the Shetlands.

Oh, that icon, I want to jump into it.

It's the Falklands - I can't recall exactly where but that's why I picked that picture, last July...

This one is one of the ice hotels - either Finland, Greenland or Sweden. If my brain weren't parboiled I might be able to remember.

The rain it rains on the Just
and the Unjust fella
But more on the just,
'cause the Unjust stole the Just's umbrella

I went to give Gerald's shoulders a rub yesterday, and our Lush massage bar had MELTED. It was just goo in a bag. That's never happened before - and it wasn't in direct sunlight or anything.

Gerald has just gone out to buy a fan, because this is just intolerable. INTOLERABLE I SAY.

goo in a bag

Ooh though now you get to experiment as to whether or not you can freeze it!

The interweb is sending us a fan tomorrow. So that I don't have to go outside to get one.

Intarweb! It's not for nothing that you are known as an evil genius.

So *that*'s where our heat wave has gone? I'm sorry for you but very selfishly relieved for us. *ducks*

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll suffer it for a bit, but not too much, mind!

Bad weather, no doughnut.

I hope your fan arrives asap tomorrow.

Bless the BBC and its weather icons.

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Looking at set, I think they'd make a really great mood theme.

[identity profile] raspberryfool.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, so THAT's why i've stayed here in Plymouth. It's nothing to do with exhibitions really, it's to catch all those nice cooling sea breezes.

Actually, yesterday we were blessed with a very creditable thunderstorm with torrential rain, but it was five in the morning. It woke me up and caused me to eat some food.

I'm off to Wembury this arvo. Neh neh ne neh neh

*darfc*

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I'm much too far away from the coast here.

[identity profile] raspberryfool.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll tell the weather gods to rustle up some thunderstorms and send them along to wake you up at five am... :-)

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Right now, for a thunderstorm, I'd take the early morning call!

Your rain and grey skies? Currently holding sway the past several days or so in Chicago.

Seriously, though, I feel your pain. It's been 96F here for two days, and the only reason I haven't gone stark-raving bonkers is because I am at work, today, where the climate control is always set to "Antarctica".

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm... Antarctica... Mmm... climate control...

[identity profile] ladybarnard.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, dear. If you're not used to that kind of heat, it can be really miserable. BTW, if it's been as much as 40c there, it's way hotter than it ever gets in most parts of Florida. It's rare for temps here to go above 93f (about 34c) because of the prevailing ocean breeze we usually have. Keep your wrists and neck cool with wet towels and that will help keep you cool. You can always lie down on the bathroom floor. Tile usually stays pretty cool. :-) I'm doing the South Florida rain dance on your behalf.

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for all this, the rain dance in particular is much appreciated! I'm about as far from the coast as you can be in the UK, so no sea breeze, alas :-( The BBC website is telling me that it didn't quite hit 30 C today, but the still air really is the killer. I'll be glad when that fan arrives tomorrow. Meanwhile, I'm off to get a flannel and wrap it round my neck - brilliant idea!
