Death of a thousand cuts

Compliments of the fucking season to the bus driver who saw me trying to catch his bus, waited all the time I was stuck at the pedestrian crossing, then running across the road, and then sprinting towards his bus before closing the door in my face and driving off to sit at the red lights ten yards away earlier. Ah, public transport...

Undaunted, I went back into the Haunted Bookshop where a shelf load of Doctor Who Target novelizations fell on my head. "Dying this way would be the ultimate irony," I said to the nice young man who helped me regain my dignity. "Oh," he replied jauntily, "I can think of more ironic ways to go!" Trust me, mate, you can't.

Swear to God, I thought your subject line said "Death of a thousand cats."

Eek no! No kitties were harmed in the making of my day!

See, this is exactly the kind of unpleasantness that Going Outside leads to, and why Survival Through Staying At Home Indoors has much to commend it.

I hope that neither you, nor the novelizations, are damaged.

BTW, are you a god of DW novelizations and the novelizations just wanted to be near you and cherish you?

Wise words, wise words. And no books or Altariels were harmed in the making of this anecdote.

the novelizations just wanted to be near you and cherish you?

They knew I'd give them a good home!

Phew!

And a pox upon your scurvy bus driver.

That's one heck of a harsh day - and proves that it really does take a "special" kind of person to be a bus driver (at least it does down my way!)

A SHELF LOAD of Dr Who novelisations?! Eee! Sounds painful - at least they were about a quality subject...

At least they were paperbacks, LOL!

Sympathies on the bus driver bit. I know that sort of behaviour just seems so much worse in the colder months of the year. Mind you, if a bus driver does that to me tomorrow, I'll...I'll...well, I won't be able to do much because I'll be carrying heavy luggage and I won't have a good bookshop to console myself with...

Ah, but you will have a host of LJ friends to take virtual revenge on him/her for you.

Some people think that that Bob Newhart monologue about the bus drivers' school is made up. We Know Better.

I hope your head's ok!

Everything We Heard in the 70s Was True.

Head is fine. Dignity less so, LOL!

I've met that bus driver, or would have done if he hadn't got away...

Fortunately, I've also met the one who glanced to his left as he was pulling out of Stockport bus station, saw me racing down the hill from the railway station, and paused until I had leapt aboard. I asked how he knew it was that particular bus I was running for, and he said well, it seemed worth waiting just in case.

Good bus drivers, who are considerate like that, are worth their weight in gold, aren't they? I suspect they don't do school routes, though...

God bless him. Sometimes that happens, but not as often as the first example. That'll teach me to live in the South. Oh, I did dream about a nice bus driver last night.
