Spies or heists

I do like Spooks, yes I do, but it's just not Hustle, is it?

I thought this was signalling some kind of maturation process whereby I was moving on from the grayscale world of spies for the more chipper world of nicking things whilst wearing smart suits, but then I watched the last two episodes of Reilly: Ace of Spies and all seemed to be back to normal.

I suspect the DVDs of seasons 1 and 2 will come through out letterbox some time soon - although I now have season 1 of Sandbaggers - at last!- so I think that has to come first.

Is Sandbaggers out on DVD???!!! Jumps up and down with excitement. At last I can replace my appalling video copies of one of my all time favourite series. You've just made my day. I enjoy Spooks but nothing can compete with Roy Marsden as Neil Burnside.

Yes indeed, I am absolutely delighted to say! Season 1. I think the rest will follow. It's been out on US DVD for a while, but was far too expensive.

I have seen only one episode of Sandbaggers, years ago, and - well, you know what my obsessions are. I've been desperate to see it for years.

You certainly know how to make a person happy *g*.

I've been desperate to see it for years.

I hope it lives up to expectations, but I think it will! It's very much of its time and is a world much less flashy than Spooks, full of behind the scenes scheming and world-weariness. I don't think I've seen Roy Marsden be better in anything. Enjoy!

The single episode I saw was brilliant, it has stuck in my memory. And I suspect it will be very like 'Callan' (low budget, small sets, world-weariness), which I adore.

Yup, that would be it. I have to admit to not having seen 'Callan' but my other half used to really like it and he loves 'The Sandbaggers' as well so I think you're in with a good chance of enjoying it.

The first colour season of 'Callan' is also out on DVD - the rights have just changed hands too, so I'm hoping for more eventually.
