Give us a kiss!

[livejournal.com profile] edeainfj posted in [livejournal.com profile] starrymantle yesterday about the petition she is organizing to get New Line to release one picture of Faramir and Éowyn kissing. It's not a big demand, and people are asking ever so nicely.

Edited to add: Grateful thanks to [livejournal.com profile] aervir for alerting me to a well-timed new painting by Anke Eissman. (Big graphic under that first link, but OMG!!!11!!eleventy!!!)

Hey, that's really a strange coincidence. Only some minutes ago, I made a post in my LJ on my way of coping with the lack of canon smooching in the Extended Edition. (Hint: Anke Eissmann (http://anke.edoras-art.de/anke_home.html) has updated her homepage.) Just in case that even that little petition might be in vain...

Hm, your edit made the comment above kind of obsolete. Sorry. I posted it before I noticed that you had already noticed my original LJ post and had edited your own post accordingly. Am I still making sense? If I don't, blame it on a case of hormone-induced vacuum in my brain.

And, BTW, my signature is number 192. :D

I posted, went to my friends list, saw your entry, and came back to edit :-)

I'm number 9 on the petition... :-D

Nooooooo!!! The best thing the film did, IM0, was cut all that Houses of Healing stuff out. It was character rape by author - suddenly he no longer needs a kickass heroine so he totally alters her personality. Nice as Faramir was, how could she be happy housewifing after she'd tried being a hero?

Them's fighting words on this journal! ;-D

I used to think so, too, for quite a while until I found some way to reconcile the end of Éowyn's story with her status as a warrior heroine. It just requires a slightly strained interpretation of the text.

Okay, I am probably twisting the Lord of the Rings so that I can enjoy reading it after the Women's Lib movement, but anyway here (http://greenbooks.theonering.net/guest/files/050101_02.html) might be some food for thought. A defense of Faramir/Éowyn by a self-proclaimed feminist, which I quite liked.

Or I might just be still influenced by the discourse of romantic love which is only an invention of the patriarchal and bourgeois establishment for the subjection of women in entrenched power hierarchies. ;)

And they do look ever so pretty together.

That's the ultimate argument, of course. :)

They filmed that? Gee, maybe it will appear in the SUPER-EXTENDED ROTK, along with Faramir in the Houses of Healing... :p
