Middle-earth Fanfiction Awards

Congratulations to all in and around my friends list who have done so well in the Middle-earth Fanfiction Awards.

It turned out to be quite a long list; apologies if I missed anyone.

*jawdrop*

...

Thank you, I'd never have known.

[identity profile] applegnat.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
And many congratulations to you as well, sneaky person who left her own much-praised name out of the list. *g*

[identity profile] applegnat.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
No, I believe the appropriate response would be: Raaaaah! Or I AM A GOLDEN GOD.

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
I AM A GOLDEN GOD.

"I dig music!"

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't want to incriminate myself! ;-D

[identity profile] applegnat.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
The one thing you must however admit to is that that movie is love.

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
The movie is love and the soundtrack is bliss.

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
Go you!

Make sure you have a read in the list archives: the Awards were comments-based, so you get to read all the nice things that people have said about you and your stuff.

[identity profile] the-wild-iris.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you, and congratulations to everyone - what an array of results!

But I think you left yourself out, Altariel... :)

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
Oops!

Hope you had a productive afternoon. I have merrily edited out all the problematic sections of my chapter 4. All that remains now is the conclusion, whatever that may be.

[identity profile] the-wild-iris.livejournal.com 2004-11-17 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Congratulations on your productive afternoon!

Mine wasn't terribly productive by global standards, though by my personal standards it was a pretty good one :)

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-11-17 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
I guess personal standards of success is all we can hope for (let's leave world peace for another day). Glad you were productive :-)

Thank you for posting :-)

Congratulations one and all, & especially Altariel, who sneakily seems to have left herself off the list!

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 08:22 am (UTC)(link)
Delighted to see Missing win well-deserved acknowledgement.

[identity profile] espresso-addict.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
Me too :) -- colour me astonished

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, congratulations to them, and also to you. Well done!!

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 09:19 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you, gb!

[identity profile] aervir.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Congratulations to everyone, including the owner of this journal! :) So many fics to read, so little time...

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
If I'd had a bit more time, I would have put links in, but I nearly missed my bus as it was!

[identity profile] aervir.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
Don't worry! I guess I know where the "usual suspects" might post their fics. :)

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 08:45 am (UTC)(link)
:-) If all else fails, you can always click on the LJ name and I'm sure people have links to where their material is archived. (I think some LJ names and pseuds don't match up.)

[identity profile] ithilwen.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
Forgot to add someone to that list I see. I thnk someone named "Altariel" did rather well in those awards (and deservedly so). ;-)

Congratulations to all! It looks like everyone had a good time with the MEFAs, and a lot of very nice stories are getting some added attention as well, which is always a good thing.

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
I started doing them alphabetically and didn't want to put myself first, and then it took ages, and I had to run for my bus... Anyway. Congratulations, and you're right, it's nice to see how many stories are getting attention, and how much people enjoyed participating. I wish I had had some time to get involved.

[identity profile] ithilwen.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 11:22 am (UTC)(link)
There weren't a lot of people involved this year. Lack of time (and Galvorn duties) kept me sidelined from the MEFAs this year, too. I hope that if the MEFAs are held again next year, more people will know about them and have time to participate in them. They're certainly a fun, and very different, way to run fanfiction awards!

[identity profile] edge-of-ruin.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 10:08 am (UTC)(link)
Crumbs! Thanks for posting this and many congrats to everyone, including yourself of course:-)

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
:-D I'll update the site when you get the badges through.

[identity profile] tyellas.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 11:41 am (UTC)(link)
Who? Wha? Huh? I won a shiny? For the horses?

-blinks in astonishment-

Thanks, Altariel, and congratulations everybody!

(putters off to see)

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Those horses have really done you proud.

[identity profile] stultiloquentia.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, thanks for the heads-up! I'd forgotten all about those, and might well have remained oblivious. And congrats on yours! :D

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-11-16 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
Enjoy the comments you got :-)

[identity profile] thrihyrne.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you, my dear.

And it was QUITE the ommission to leave yourself out, seeing as how you did so well.

Rightfully so, I'd add.

I still need to reprint my copy of your extended Eowyn/Faramir that I gifted to [livejournal.com profile] fungus_files after rereading it in Australia last year.

I do miss Tolkien. It's just more fun, dialogue-wise, to write HP in my world currently. But I know that you, too, write in multiple fandoms, and that in itself is incredibly inspiring.

(thank you again for your recent hugs from my recent flist post. those were most welcome. :D)

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-11-16 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
Congratulations on all your well-deserved awards :-)

One day I'll get round to printing myself a copy of Chess...

I have only dipped a little into HP fandom, and then only to indulge in Remus/Sirius angst.

I'm glad the hugs were welcome. I don't comment enough to your journal, but I am always reading.

[identity profile] thrihyrne.livejournal.com 2004-11-17 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
One day I'll get round to printing myself a copy of Chess...

*gasps*

You mean that you don't have hard copies of your own writing? How can you bear it?! I have an overflowing Kinko's bag of my stories. Just In Case something happened to my comp/flashdrive/all archives.

I have only dipped a little into HP fandom, and then only to indulge in Remus/Sirius angst.

I write R/S angst!! Feel free to read it, if you'd like! she says, trolling for new readership.

And don't worry about comments or lack thereof. We are all busy and I am constantly lurking at your LJ as well, though I don't comment all the time. :) I know how that goes.

Congratulations again!!

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-11-18 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
I have a rather ancient printed out version of Chess somewhere, but I'm not quite sure where it is. [livejournal.com profile] belegcuthalion did some wonderful, illustrated PDF versions of the German translations she did of some of my fiction; I'd like to do something like that, one day. When I get time! But most of my short stories I don't have as printouts.

I didn't know you wrote R/S angst! I thought the Twins were your specialization! Are the stories up on your site? I must have a poke around!

[identity profile] thrihyrne.livejournal.com 2004-11-18 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Well... cough... twins are my specialization. But I started with R/S and they remain my fave. Well, okay, the two are equal within my Greater Writing Realm.

I have PWP R/S, and rather angsty R/S, which I suspect you would enjoy more, just in 'knowing' you.

It's hidden on my website, at http://www.thrihyrne.net/adultHP.html

Basically, you can go to the main site, then to the HP stuff, then click on George's vambrace (he's the one sitting at the lefthand corner of the page) and get to the adult site. That's where the R to NC-17 stuff is, including "Better Than the Pub" which is pure PWP, but also "Addiction," which begins with Sirius, then Remus, then Severus, and back again. Love that circular stuff, whether Tolkiehn or no. But there's also a variation on Kieslowski's "Blue, White, Red" that I wrote while I was in Scotland, with R/S in the 'Blue is for Betrayal,' and also I would recommend (because those HP authors whose opinions I adore had a lot of positive comments for this one, and I'd put it on the back burner for a few months and came back to it and it's garnered a fair amount of affirmative commentary) both The Essence of Black and Unleashed if you'd care to see my non-femmeslash slash writings within that angsty R/S context. But with the URL, you now have open season on all of my adult writings, though they are all currently HP. I've had a non-adult Amrod/Amras story in my head for months, but much to my dismay, only Snape (after my OFC in 'Daughters of Orome') has woken me up in the middle of night with dialogue, demanding me to write.

If you do choose to read my R/S, I would be thrilled to know your thoughts.

*back to dinner*

It's probably time to write original fic.

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-11-25 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
I've really enjoyed your R/S stories, particularly The Essence of Black. You get the 'Britishness' down really well, which is one of the most difficult things to do, I think.

Loved Black's opinion on LotR, LOL! And George's tattoo was hilarious!

[identity profile] katlinel.livejournal.com 2004-11-16 11:36 am (UTC)(link)
Belated congratulations to everyone who won, and especially to modest you.

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-11-17 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I was putting them alphabetically by LJ name, which meant I would have been top of the list, and I didn't want to do that. Then I forgot. Oops.

Unrelated - have you read anything by Robin Hobb? Bookbrowsing yesterday with [livejournal.com profile] the_wild_iris, we were wondering what the books were like, and I figured that if anyone would know, it would be you.

[identity profile] katlinel.livejournal.com 2004-11-17 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Robin Hobb - yes I've read the Liveship Traders trilogy, or at least the first three books, if there were more. They were OK, but I didn't find that anything stood out for me in them. Not as good as Sheri Tepper would be my comment. I haven't read the Farseertrilogy--and I'm sure that that is now in more than three parts--although that simply has a lot to do with the fact that protagaonist is a boy of unknown heritage, I think so zzzzz.

She used to write as Megan Lindholm. I don't know why she started using a different name, but it's probably on the web somewhere. I generally prefer her Lindholm books, except the two about the Reindeer people, since they seemed to be cashing in on the prehistoric peoples market that Jean Auel opened up. It's not that Lindholm's are bad, but I have limited tolerance for that type of tale which Auel satisfies.

However, I love her Windsinger books. We have three of them in one cover - Harpy's Flight, The Windsingers, and The Limbreth Gate. There's also another one called Luck of the Wheels, which is about the same two people, but is a bit lighter. I also really like Cloven Hooves - it's a haunting and sad book. Wizard of the Pigeons reminds me of the film The Fisher King, and it's pretty good, although I was disappointed by the ending. Alien Earth is OK - I don't have strong feelings either way about that one.

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-11-18 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you for this. It never ceases to amaze me: 1. how widely read you are and 2. how you're able to remember and respond to each book you read.

protagaonist is a boy of unknown heritage, I think so zzzzz.

Heh!

[identity profile] katlinel.livejournal.com 2004-11-19 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
*blushes*

I can't remember that much detail about some of the books I've read.

And I'm always impressed by how much you've read too, and thank you so very much for sharing lots of that with me.
