When did you write your first "fanfiction" piece? What was it for?
Not counting the B7 stick-man cartoons I drew in a notebook when I was about 9, I'm not actually sure! I wrote a 4th season B7 story about Vila called "Decline and Fall", and a Dr Who story (my only one) about Susan called "Time and Time Again". I'm not sure which came first, they were both written sometime around 1991 or 1992. I had completely forgotten about these until recently.
Did you actually post it anywhere?
I wrote the B7 one on my electric typewriter and then lost the print-out shifting between home and university. I rewrote it and posted it to a mailing list a few years later. The Dr Who story was published in DWM.
What series have you written fanfics for?
Blake's 7, DS9, LotR. A couple of Silmfics. And a B7 and Highlander crossover, just so that I could play for a bit with Methos.
If you had the chance to have the original creator turn any of your fanfic into an actual real piece, which story would you choose?
Closure.
Any Original Characters (ones that got named) that you had inhabit the series universes? If so - who/where? (Yes, this is where we embarrass you by revealing your dark secrets!)
I'm not clear what this question is getting at. OCs? Yes, lots of them. If it means Mary Sues then yes, of course, I liberally lavish characters with my many talents and failings (and not just the OCs). Sometimes they lavish back.
Do you have any weird music quirks that help you write?
I find it very difficult to listen to music when I write. Does that count as a quirk? If I do listen to music, it has to be stuff I can’t sing along to, because then I start singing along to it, to the detriment of the dialogue.
What are common "themes" you hide in your stories?
If you read my Denethor stories backwards, you’ll find an incantation to raise the dead.
I write a lot about difficult father-son relationships that, a generation down, become functional father-daughter relationships. I also write a lot about people who can’t evade the consequences of past actions. I used to write a lot about the individual's relationship with society, but I haven't been that way for a while now.
What are your favourite characters to write POVs from?
Anna Grant lets loose my inner cynic. Faramir lets loose my inner idealist. And Garak lets loose... something.
What story of yours do you wish more people would read and love?
I very much hope people will read and like The Lotus Flower!
If you could pick a specific scene of your story to be made into a comic-book/doujinshi format, what scene from what fanfic would you pick?
Ooh, good question. I think I would like the scene between Denethor andthe Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come Finduilas in Spirits of the House. Or else the whole of Run Anna Run.
And last but not least - why do you like writing fanfiction?
