whether I can actually remember anything about half of these books is another matter entirely

I'm glad it's not just me that that happens to. I'll realise, partway into a conversation in which I've already claimed to have read/seen a particular book or film, that I can't even remember characters' names, never mind any details of what happens. And yet other things, I'll remember well. Weird.
