I had both, and yes, she's much more suited to Narnia. I was always dissatisfied with her illustrations, which were the only ones around at the time, and then someone gave me what I think was the first calendar with Tolkien's own illustrations, and I was thrilled, because they were exactly how I imagined Middle-earth. I still think they're the best - I've just bought myself a new copy of The Hobbit which uses some of them, to replace my battered 1961 Puffin with a Baynes cover.
But yes, I can see the appeal of those Cor Blok pictures. That's the way to go, I think. Most of the fan art doesn't work for me; it tends to aim for something too sophisticated.
I meant to say congratulations to mraltariel. It's the combination of the Sun, the Moon, egg and bacon that's so brilliant (even if I'd prefer my own egg without meat in any form).
