FB is a mess in terms of infrastructure, unintuitiveness of turning off email alerts and adjusting privacy settings - BUT I do quite like it and find it useful because I know lots of people who will give regular short updates (I don't do Twitter), but only post once in a blue moon. And then there are all the other peoples I'm happy to be in touch with who aren't on LJ at all.
