Actually, "brand" is Sindarin for "noble" (a la Dragon Flame), so that's why I used it. "Brandmir" is literally "Noble jewel". And it's got the whole son-has-name-that-starts-with-the-same-letter-as-Dad's thing that Tolkien liked so much. Otherwise, I'm inclined to agree that it's overused.
