Stress meme

[livejournal.com profile] ithilwen tagged me on the stress meme (and can you believe I accidentally deleted it first time round - cos that's not going to raise my blood pressure):

Things you enjoy, even when no one around you wants to go out and play. What lowers your stress/blood pressure/anxiety level? Make a list, post it to your journal, and tag five friends.

1. Reading all the Gregor and Laisa bits in the Vorkosigan books.

2. Tub-thumping by Chumbawumba: yes, I know that's quite specific, but turning this on really loud has reliably reduced fury/stress/anxiety on a number of occasions.

3. Talking to Mr A.

4. Cleaning the kitchen. Must.impose.order.on.CHAOS!!

5. In absolute direst need, not tried since the very darkest days of the doctorate: playing scales.

I won't tag because it might stress people. Meme at will.

I apologize for hijacking your post on an unrelated topic, but I just discovered that The Hollow Men is available as an ebook at Fictionwise, and I bought it, and am very excited.

I have a strong preference for reading from my handheld--for convenience and portability and because it's much easier on my eyes and hands. And because I'm a gadget freak and a big geek.

Just this morning I was reading the paperback version of your novel on the bus and struggling a bit in poor light. When I got to the office, I went to Fictionwise to download Enchanted, Inc., a novel by another author on my friends list, [livejournal.com profile] shanna_s. It occurred to me that yours might be there too, and sure enough, I found it! So I bought it. I'll donate the paperback to our office charitable book sale. And I'll leave a positive rating at Fictionwise.

I'm never sure how authors feel, or how much they know, about ebooks, so I'll just mention that this is an encrypted Mobipocket edition (meaning it can't be read on anyone else's device but mine--I can't disseminate it on the usenet, for instance--not that I would); I paid roughly the same price for it as for the mass market paperback; it includes a replica of the cover art and title page, and it's nicely formatted, including a hyperlinked table of contents.

Anyway, I'm thrilled. Now I'll be able to really get into your novel in ease and comfort. If I had one of those futuristic computers-in-your-pocket with eyeglasses monitor, I could read it while on the Stairmaster, and then my life would be complete.

I know pretty much nothing about ebooks, but I'm delighted you've found it in your preferred format. And glad you got a good version of the cover too, which I think is knockout. Hope you enjoy the rest of the book.

How interesting that it's easier for you on your eyes than a paperback, which I wouldn't have thought was the case (I tend to print out fanfic, for example, rather than read on screen, if I really want to concentrate on the read).

Yes, that would be brilliant (exercise bike in my case).
